1. Introduction

The JUNCTEK JDS8000 series (JDS8060 and JDS8080 models) are advanced dual-channel function arbitrary waveform generators designed for a wide range of electronic testing and development applications. These devices offer high performance with a sampling rate of up to 275MSa/s and 14-bit vertical resolution, ensuring precise waveform generation. Key features include dual-channel output with adjustable phase difference, various modulation types, sweep functions, VCO capabilities, pulse width modulation, burst functions, and a built-in frequency meter and counter. The JDS8000 series supports both PC software and mobile APP control for enhanced flexibility.

2. Product Overview

2.1. Front and Rear Panel Layout

Front Panel Components:

  • 2.8 inch color screen: Displays waveform parameters and settings.
  • Function shortcut keys: Quick access to common functions (WAVE, MOD, SYS, SWEEP, VCO, MEAS).
  • Knob: For adjusting values and navigating menus.
  • Direction keys: For menu navigation and parameter selection.
  • Channel control keys: CH1, CH2 for selecting and enabling channels.
  • Shortcut keys (MEM, In/Out, SHIFT, Power): For memory functions, input/output settings, shift operations, and power control.
  • Function soft keys: Context-sensitive keys for on-screen menu options.
  • Input connector (MOD, EXT): For modulation input and external trigger.
  • Output connector (CH1, CH2): BNC connectors for waveform output.

Rear Panel Components:

  • Vents: For heat dissipation.
  • Power switch: Main power control.
  • Ground terminal: For safety grounding.
  • TTL Ext. (OUT, SYNC, IN): TTL level input/output for synchronization and external control.
  • Extended interface: Additional connectivity options.
  • Communication interface (USB): For PC connection and software control.
  • DC Power socket: For external DC power supply (DC5V).
  • AC power socket: For AC power input (AC 85-24V, 47-63Hz).

3. Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect the provided power cable to the AC power socket on the rear panel and plug it into a suitable AC power outlet (85-24V, 47-63Hz). The maximum power consumption is 30W.
  2. Grounding: For safety and optimal performance, connect the ground terminal on the rear panel to a reliable earth ground.
  3. Initial Power On: Press the power switch on the rear panel to turn on the device. The 2.8-inch color screen will illuminate.
  4. Output Connections: Connect BNC cables from the CH1 and/or CH2 output connectors on the front panel to your desired load or measurement device (e.g., oscilloscope).
  5. Input Connections: If using external modulation or trigger, connect the source to the MOD or EXT input connectors.
  6. PC Software/Mobile App Setup (Optional):
    • PC Software: Install the provided PC software (or download the latest version from the manufacturer's website). Connect the device to your computer using the USB cable. The software allows for advanced control, arbitrary waveform editing, and programming.
    • Mobile App: Download the official mobile application. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and pair it with the signal generator. The app allows for remote control and importing waveforms. Note that mobile phones cannot draw waveforms directly but can import them.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Basic Operation

Navigate menus and adjust parameters using the knob, direction keys, and function soft keys. The 2.8-inch color screen provides a clear interface for monitoring and setting parameters.

4.2. Waveform Generation

The JDS8000 series can generate a variety of standard and arbitrary waveforms:

  • Standard Waveforms: Sine wave, square wave, pulse wave (with precise duty ratio, pulse width, and cycle time), triangle wave, rising ramp, falling ramp, CMOS wave, DC level, half wave, full wave, positive step wave, inverse staircase wave, exponential rise, exponential fall, Lorentz pulse wave, multisonic wave, random noise wave, trapezoidal pulse wave, and Sinker pulse wave.
  • Frequency Range: Sine wave output frequency ranges from 1nHz to 60MHz (JDS8060) or 1nHz to 80MHz (JDS8080).
  • Amplitude: Output amplitude is adjustable from 1mVpp to 25Vpp.

4.3. Dual Channel Operation

Both channels (CH1 and CH2) have identical performance and can output the same or different waveform signals simultaneously. The phase difference between the two channels is continuously adjustable from 0° to 359.99°.

4.4. Modulation Function

The device supports various modulation types for both channels, including AM (Amplitude Modulation), FM (Frequency Modulation), PM (Phase Modulation), ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying), FSK (Frequency Shift Keying), and PSK (Phase Shift Keying).

4.5. Sweep Function

Perform sweeps across frequency, amplitude, and duty cycle. Both linear and logarithmic scanning modes are available.

4.6. VCO (Voltage Controlled Output)

Control the frequency, amplitude, and duty cycle of the output waveform using an external voltage signal connected to the VCO input.

4.7. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)

Digitally adjust the pulse width and pulse cycle time for precise pulse waveform generation.

4.8. Burst Function

Configure the device to output waveform signals for a specified number of cycles, ranging from 1 to 1,048,575 arbitrary cycles.

4.9. Arbitrary Waveform Function

The PC software includes over 160 commonly used arbitrary waveforms. Users can also customize and draw their own arbitrary waveforms using the PC software and download them to the signal generator with a single click.

4.10. Measurement and Counter Function

The device is equipped with a 1Hz-100MHz frequency meter and counter, supporting both AC and DC coupling modes for accurate measurements.

4.11. Trigger Functions

Trigger options include Manual burst, CH2 burst, external burst (AC), and external burst (DC).

4.12. Multi-level Synchronization

Connect two or more JDS8000 series units to achieve multi-channel waveform output with synchronized operation.

4.13. Firmware Update

The device supports firmware updates via dedicated software, allowing for continuous improvement of product performance and features.

4.14. Mobile APP Control

Utilize the mobile application to control the device remotely via Bluetooth. The app allows for importing waveforms and adjusting settings.

4.15. PC Software Control

The dedicated PC software provides a comprehensive interface for controlling all functions of the signal generator, including advanced waveform editing, parameter configuration, and programming control via communication protocols.

5. User Tips

  • Regular Calibration: For critical applications, consider periodic calibration to maintain accuracy.
  • Cable Quality: Use high-quality BNC cables and test leads to minimize signal loss and interference.
  • Explore PC Software: The PC software offers advanced features and greater control over waveform creation and device programming. Take time to familiarize yourself with its capabilities.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within specified temperature and humidity ranges to ensure longevity and stable performance.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the manufacturer's website for new firmware versions. Updating the firmware can improve performance and add new features.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect all cables for signs of wear or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately to ensure safe and reliable operation.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the device and the power outlet. Check the power switch on the rear panel.
  • No Output Signal: Verify that the output channels (CH1/CH2) are enabled on the screen. Check cable connections to the load. Ensure amplitude and frequency settings are appropriate.
  • Incorrect Waveform: Double-check the waveform type, frequency, amplitude, offset, and duty cycle settings. If using arbitrary waveforms, ensure they were loaded correctly.
  • PC Software/Mobile App Connection Issues: Ensure the USB cable is properly connected for PC software. For the mobile app, verify Bluetooth is enabled and the device is paired. Restarting the device and the application may resolve connection problems.
  • Unstable Readings/Output: Ensure proper grounding. Check for external interference sources.
