LCD Control Panel Functions:

  • POWER: Turns the detector on/off.
  • SENSITIVITY: Adjusts the detector's sensitivity to metal objects.
  • PINPOINT: Helps to precisely locate the detected object.
  • VOLUME: Controls the audio output level.
  • CUSTOM: Allows for custom discrimination settings.
  • SET: Used to confirm selections or enter settings menus.
  • Ferrous/Non-Ferrous Indicators: Displays the type of metal detected.
  • Depth Scale: Indicates the approximate depth of the detected object.

5. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your metal detector:

  1. Attach the Search Coil: Securely fasten the search coil to the bottom of the adjustable stem using the provided bolt and knob. Ensure it is tight but allows for angle adjustment.
  2. Assemble the Stem: Connect the upper and lower parts of the adjustable stem. Adjust the length to a comfortable height (between 102-130 cm / 3.3-4.2 ft) by loosening and tightening the locking collars.
  3. Mount the Control Box: Slide the control box onto the top of the stem. Ensure it clicks into place or is securely fastened.
  4. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the control box. Insert 6 x 1.5V AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely. (Batteries are not included).
  5. Connect Headphones: Plug the included headphones into the headphone jack on the control box.
  6. Adjust Armrest: Position the armrest for comfortable use, ensuring your forearm rests naturally.

6. Operating Instructions

Before starting, ensure you are in an open area away from large metal objects that could interfere with detection.

  1. Power On: Press the POWER button to turn on the detector. The LCD screen will illuminate.
  2. Select Detection Mode:
    • All-Detect Mode: This mode identifies all types of metal objects, including coins, relics, jewelry, gold, and silver. It is ideal for general searching.
    • Discrimination Mode: Use this mode to filter out unwanted items (e.g., iron trash). Adjust the 'CUSTOM' setting to specify which types of metals to ignore. The detector will only alert you to the metals you wish to find.
  3. Adjust Sensitivity: Use the 'SENSITIVITY' controls to adjust the detector's sensitivity. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase false signals in mineralized ground. Start with a medium setting and adjust as needed.
  4. Adjust Volume: Use the 'VOLUME' controls to set a comfortable listening level for the headphones.
  5. Scanning Technique: Hold the search coil parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above the surface. Swing the coil slowly from side to side in overlapping sweeps.
  6. Interpreting Signals: When a metal object is detected, the detector will emit an audible tone, and the LCD screen will display information about the potential target, including its type (Ferrous/Non-Ferrous) and approximate depth. Different tones indicate various metal types.
  7. Pinpointing: Once a target is detected, use the 'PINPOINT' function to narrow down its exact location. Move the coil slowly over the target area until the strongest signal is heard/displayed, indicating the center of the object.

Waterproof Capability: The search coil is waterproof and can be submerged in shallow water. However, the control box is NOT waterproof and must be kept dry. Avoid submerging the control box.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the search coil and stem with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box remains dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Care: Always use fresh batteries. Replace all batteries at the same time. Dispose of old batteries responsibly.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly check all cables and connections for any signs of wear or damage.

8. Troubleshooting

No Power:
Check if batteries are correctly installed and fully charged. Replace with new batteries if necessary.
False Signals/Chattering:
Reduce the sensitivity setting. Ensure you are not near large metal objects, power lines, or other electronic devices that could cause interference. Ground mineralization can also cause false signals; try reducing sensitivity or adjusting ground balance if available (this model has automatic ground balance).
Detector Not Finding Metal:
Increase sensitivity. Ensure the search coil is properly connected. Check battery levels. Make sure you are in 'All-Detect' mode if you want to find all metals.
LCD Display Not Clear:
Ensure the backlight is activated for low-light conditions. Check battery levels as low power can affect display clarity.

9. User Tips

  • Battery Life: Using headphones can significantly extend battery life compared to using the built-in speaker.
  • Shallow Water Use: Remember that only the search coil is waterproof. Always keep the control box dry and above water.
  • Detection Depth: The maximum detection depth is approximately 16 cm (6.3 inches) for typical coin-sized objects. Larger objects may be detected deeper.
  • What it Detects: This metal detector is designed to detect metallic objects. It cannot detect non-metallic items like plastic bags or their contents based on color.
  • Practice: Familiarize yourself with the detector's tones and display responses to different types of metals by testing it with known objects in a clear area.
