2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before using the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

  • Always ensure the device is in good working condition before use.
  • Do not attempt to open or modify the device. Repairs should only be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Keep the device away from water and extreme temperatures.
  • When detecting live AC wires, exercise extreme caution. Always verify findings with other methods if possible.
  • Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam.

4. Setup and Charging

4.1 Battery Charging

The UT387 series devices are equipped with a 300mAh rechargeable lithium battery. Before first use, or when the low battery indicator appears on the display, charge the device using the provided Type-C USB cable.

  1. Connect the Type-C USB cable to the device's charging port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
  3. The display will show a charging indicator.
  4. Once fully charged, the indicator will change, and you can disconnect the cable.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Wall Scanning (UT387E, UT387LM, UT387S)

This mode allows detection of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, AC electric wires, and wood behind walls.

  1. Press the 'Detect Foreign Body' key to enter wall scanning mode.
  2. Place the device flat against the wall surface.
  3. Slowly move the device horizontally across the surface.
  4. The display will indicate the presence and type of detected material, along with its approximate depth.
  5. An audible alarm will sound when an object is detected.

AC Electric Wire Detection:

The device can detect live AC electric wires up to 40mm deep.

Wood Detection:

5.2 Laser Ranging (UT387LM, UT387S)

These models feature a laser rangefinder for accurate distance measurements up to 40 meters.

Single Measurement:

Long press the On/Measure key to automatically enter laser single measurement. Short press the key to perform a single measurement, and the result will be displayed.

Continuous Measurement:

Press the On/Measure button to enter continuous measurement mode. Point the laser at the target, and the display will show maximum and minimum values as the device moves.

Area and Pythagorean Measurement:

Use the function menu key to select Area measurement, Single Pythagorean, or Double Pythagorean modes. Follow the on-screen instructions to take the necessary measurements.

5.3 Wood Moisture Detection (UT387S only)

The UT387S model includes a wood moisture detection feature.

  1. Ensure the device is powered on.
  2. Remove the probe cover from the bottom of the device.
  3. Gently press the moisture probes into the wood surface.
  4. The display will show the wood moisture percentage.
  5. Press the 'Measure/Lock Moisture Data' key to lock the reading.

5.4 Data Storage and Unit Conversion

The UT387LM and UT387S models can store up to 30 sets of measurement data for convenient record query.

  • To access stored data, navigate through the menu using the 'MENU' keys.
  • The device also supports multiple unit switching (m/ft/in) for laser measurements. Use the appropriate menu option to change units.

5.5 Voice Broadcast

The UT387 series features a live voice broadcast function for measurement results, enhancing user experience and human-computer interaction.

6. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is partially charged.
  • Battery: Recharge the battery regularly to maintain its lifespan, even if the device is not in frequent use.
  • Laser Lens: Keep the laser emitting and receiving lenses clean for accurate measurements.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device not turning on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to a Type-C USB charger and try again.
  • Inaccurate wall scanning results: Ensure the device is held flat against the wall and moved slowly. Avoid scanning over highly reflective or uneven surfaces. Calibrate the device if available in the menu.
  • Laser measurement errors: Ensure the laser lens is clean and unobstructed. Measure to a clear, non-reflective target. Environmental factors like strong light can affect accuracy.
  • Wood moisture readings inconsistent (UT387S): Ensure probes are fully inserted into the wood. Test on a known dry piece of wood to verify functionality.
  • No voice broadcast: Check the volume settings in the device's menu.
