1. Overview
The UNI-T UT343D is an advanced coating thickness gauge designed for precise, non-destructive measurement of coating thickness on both ferrous (Fe) and non-ferrous (NFe) matrixes. It offers high precision, stable performance, and a range of features including an automotive mode, voice broadcast, Bluetooth APP connectivity, and an LED flashlight. This device is essential for various industries such as automotive manufacturing, sales, metal processing, painting, and quality inspection.
The gauge operates on two principles:
- Electromagnetic Induction (Fe): Measures coating thickness on ferromagnetic metals (e.g., iron, steel) by detecting the magnetic flux.
- Eddy Current Measurement (NFe): Measures non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic metals (e.g., aluminum, copper) by analyzing eddy currents.
The UT343D automatically identifies the matrix type (ferrous or non-ferrous) and supports a measurement range of 0-1250µm.
2. Safety Instructions
- When powering on, ensure the gauge's sensor is not near any metal objects to prevent usability issues.
- Keep the sensor clean and in good condition, free from dust, oil, or other factors that could affect measurement accuracy.
- Avoid using or storing the gauge in environments with high temperatures, high humidity, flammable, explosive materials, or strong magnetic fields.
- Clean the casing with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Do not disassemble or modify the gauge.
- If the low battery symbol appears on the LCD, charge the product promptly.
- When using the USB interface for charging or data communication, use the original USB cable and disconnect it promptly after use.
- Do not shine the flashlight directly into eyes.
- For Bluetooth communication, maintain a distance of less than 10 meters between the gauge and the mobile device, and ensure no obstacles or metal shielding.
- Preserve standard coating thickness sheets and metal matrixes properly to prevent damage that could affect accuracy.
- If other failures occur, consider restoring factory settings.

4.2.1. Zero-Point Calibration
- Place the gauge vertically on an uncoated metal matrix.
- Hold for 2 seconds, then lift the gauge. The screen should display 0.0, and the gauge will return to the main interface.
- Zero-point calibration is complete.

Figure 3: Zero-point calibration on an uncoated metal matrix.
4.2.2. Two-Point Calibration
- Stack a standard coating thickness sheet (e.g., 500µm) on an uncoated metal matrix.
- Place the gauge vertically on the stacked sheets.
- Hold for 2 seconds, then lift the gauge. The measured value will be displayed.
- Use the Value plus/minus buttons to adjust the displayed value to match the thickness of the standard sheet.
- Press OK/Menu to confirm the calibration.
- Place the gauge vertically on the uncoated matrix.
- Hold for 2 seconds, then lift the gauge. The screen should display 0.0, and the gauge will return to the main interface.
- Two-point calibration is complete.

4.2.3. Calibration Verification
After calibration, measure the thickness of a standard coating thickness sheet. The measured value should fall within the specified error range of the nominal value. If not, recalibration is needed.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. General Measurement
- Ensure the probe is clean and free from obstructions.
- Place the probe vertically on the object to be measured, ensuring close contact with the surface.
- The displayed value is the estimated coating thickness.
