5. Setup Guide

5.1. Inserting the SIM Card

  1. Ensure the device is powered OFF.
  2. Locate the SIM card slot on the side of the device (refer to Figure 3.2).
  3. Carefully insert your 4G SIM card into the slot until it clicks into place. Ensure the SIM card is oriented correctly according to the diagram near the slot.
  4. The device is designed to be unlocked for use with any carrier, but network compatibility depends on the bands supported by your carrier and the device.

5.2. Charging the Device

  1. Connect one end of the provided USB data cable to the MicroUSB terminal on the MF98N.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
  3. The battery indicator on the display will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes several hours.

5.3. Powering On/Off

  • To Power ON: Slide the Power Button to the right (ON position). The device display will light up.
  • To Power OFF: Slide the Power Button to the left (OFF position). The device display will turn off.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Connecting Devices via Wi-Fi

  1. Ensure the MF98N is powered ON and has established a network connection (indicated by the signal strength icon on the display).
  2. On your Wi-Fi enabled device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), search for available Wi-Fi networks.
  3. Select the network name (SSID) of your MF98N (usually printed on a label inside the device or on the packaging).
  4. Enter the Wi-Fi password (Key) when prompted. This is also typically found on the same label as the SSID.
  5. Once connected, your device will have internet access through the MF98N.

6.2. Using the Display and Navigation

The 1.4-inch display provides real-time information about your device's status. Use the touch keys (Up, Down, Enter, Return) to navigate through menus and view details such as:

  • Signal Strength
  • Battery Level
  • Operator Name
  • Data Usage
  • Connected Devices
  • Wi-Fi SSID and Password

Press the Info button to turn the display ON or OFF to conserve battery.

6.3. Power Bank Function

The ZTE MF98N can act as a power bank to charge other devices. Connect your smartphone or other USB-powered device to the standard USB terminal on the MF98N using an appropriate charging cable. The MF98N's 5000mAh battery will then supply power to the connected device.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Battery Care

  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) as this can degrade battery performance and lifespan.
  • For optimal battery health, try to keep the charge level between 20% and 80% when possible, rather than constantly fully charging or fully discharging.
  • If storing the device for an extended period, charge it to about 50% before storage.

7.2. Cleaning

  • Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the device's exterior.
  • Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the device.

9. User Tips

  • Network Compatibility: While the device is generally unlocked, always verify that the supported 3G and LTE bands (listed in Section 4) match those of your intended mobile carrier in your region (e.g., Colombia, Bahrain, Egypt, Mexico) for optimal performance.
  • SIM Card Slot Cover: The device includes a slot cover for the SIM card, which helps protect the slot from dust and damage. Ensure it is properly closed after inserting the SIM.
  • Connection Stability: For consistent performance, place the MF98N in an open area away from obstructions and other electronic devices that might cause interference.
  • Battery Saving: Turn off the display using the Info button when not actively checking status to extend battery life.
