2. Setup and Installation
Careful installation is crucial for the proper functioning and safety of the active balancer. Please follow these steps precisely.
2.1 Package Contents
Depending on your specific model, the package may include:
- Active Balancer/Equalizer Module
- 3.81mm socket terminals
- Cross screwdriver
- High-quality silicone wire
- Line Sequence Detection Plate (-24S)

2.2 Wiring Instructions
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE:
Before connecting the equalizing board, always use the distributed line sequence test board (if provided) or a multimeter to verify the wiring sequence. An incorrect wiring sequence will damage the equalizing board. In such cases, the board cannot be returned or replaced.
If the measured voltage difference exceeds 1V, the equalizing current may exceed 5-6A. Ensure the wiring in the battery pack meets 0.5mm² cross-sectional area. Otherwise, it may overheat and burn out. It is recommended to use the standard cable.
- Solder Wires to Battery Pack: Solder the provided high-quality silicone wires to each cell of your battery pack in sequence. Ensure clean and secure connections.
- Install 3.81mm Socket Terminal: After soldering, install the 3.81mm socket terminal onto the wires.
- Connect Terminals to Balancer: Connect the 3.81mm terminals to the balancer. The black wire (main negative electrode) should connect to B0. The remaining wires should be connected in order (B1, B2, etc.) according to the actual number of strings in your battery pack. Leave any extra terminals blank if your battery pack has fewer strings than the balancer supports.
- Secure Connections: Use the knob screws to fix the cables securely in the terminals.
- Wire Sequence Test: Before connecting the balancer to the battery pack, perform a wire sequence test using a multimeter. Verify that the voltage readings for each cell are correct and in sequence.
- Final Connection: Once the wire sequence is confirmed correct, connect the terminal block to the balancer module.

3.2 Equalization Modes
The balancer supports different equalization modes:
- Standby Mode: The positive LED is always on, and the negative LED is off.
- Continuous Equilibrium State: Press the white self-locking switch. The positive LED lamp flashes, and the negative LED lamp is always on. This mode requires manual closure.
- Time Limited Equilibrium State: Double-click the black light touch switch. The positive LED light flashes, and the negative LED light is off.

3.3 Equalization Duration
You can select from three equalization durations:
- 1-hour balance: Press the '1h' button. The red LED will flash.
- 3-hour balance: Press the '3h' button. The red LED will flash.
- 4-hour balance: Press both '1h' and '3h' buttons. The red LED will flash.

3.4 Display Modes
The LCD screen offers multiple voltage analysis modes for easy monitoring:
- Entire string display mode: Shows overall battery pack voltage and individual cell voltages.
- Overall Analysis Mode: Provides a comprehensive view of all cell voltages.
- Separate page mode: Displays cell voltages in a paginated format.

4. Maintenance
The HeltecBMS Active Balancer is designed for durability and efficient operation. Proper maintenance ensures its longevity and consistent performance.
- Heat Dissipation: The module features a built-in customized aluminum alloy heat sink for efficient heat dissipation. Ensure adequate airflow around the unit, especially during prolonged operation.
- Cleanliness: Keep the module free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners.
- Connection Integrity: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to inefficient balancing or damage.

5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your active balancer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Balancer not starting equalization:
- Check if the ternary lithium battery voltage is lower than 2.7V or the lithium iron phosphate battery voltage is lower than 2.5V. The active equalization board will not start if cell voltages are below these thresholds.
- Ensure the voltage of each string in the balanced battery pack is greater than 3.2V for optimal effect, as the balancer transfers energy from high-voltage to low-voltage cells. - Overheating or Burn Out:
- Verify that the measured voltage difference between cells does not exceed 1V. If it does, the equalizing current may exceed 5-6A, leading to overheating.
- Confirm that the wiring in the battery pack meets the recommended 0.5mm² cross-sectional area. Using undersized wires can cause overheating. - Damage to the Equalizing Board:
- This is often caused by an incorrect wiring sequence. Always perform a wire sequence test before connecting the balancer to the battery pack.
