    • **No Neutral Version**: Connect the live (fire) wire to the 'L' terminal and the load wire to the 'L1' (for 1-key) or 'L1', 'L2' (for 2-key) terminals.
    • **With Neutral Version**: Connect the live (fire) wire to the 'L' terminal, the neutral wire to the 'N' terminal, and the load wire(s) to the 'L1', 'L2', etc., terminals.

*Refer to the specific wiring diagram included with your product packaging for precise instructions.*

  4. **Mount Switch**: Gently push the wired switch into the mounting box and secure it with the provided screws. Attach the faceplate.
  5. **Restore Power**: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker.
  6. **Test Functionality**: Manually press the switch buttons to ensure the lights turn on and off correctly.

5.2 Wireless Key Switch

The wireless key switch does not require any electrical wiring and functions as a remote control for smart lights or other smart devices connected via a Zigbee gateway. It is powered by a built-in CR2032 battery.

  1. **Placement**: Choose a suitable location to affix the switch to a wall or place it on a desktop.
  2. **Adhesion**: Use the adhesive backing (if provided) to secure the switch to a clean, dry surface.
  3. **Considerations**: Avoid placing the wireless switch on metal doors if you intend to use it as a doorbell, as metal can significantly degrade the wireless signal.

6. Setup and Pairing

The Aqara Smart Wall Switch E1 requires a Zigbee 3.0 compatible gateway (e.g., Xiaomi Gateway 2, Aqara HUB M1S, Aqara Hub E1, Aqara Smart Hub M2) to enable smart features and connect to your smart home ecosystem.

  1. **Download App**: Download and install the Xiaomi Mi Home app or Aqara Home app from your device's app store.
  2. **Gateway Setup**: Ensure your Zigbee 3.0 gateway is already set up and connected to the app.
  3. **Add Device**: Open the app, navigate to your gateway, and select "Add sub-device" or "Add device". Follow the on-screen instructions to put the E1 switch into pairing mode (usually by pressing and holding a button on the switch for a few seconds).
  4. **Region Setting**: For optimal compatibility, it is recommended to set the app's region to "Mainland China" during the connection process.
  5. **Platform Switching Note**: Be aware that switching the smart home platform (e.g., from Xiaomi to Aqara HomeKit) will typically restore the gateway to factory settings. This will require you to re-connect and re-configure all network settings, automation rules, and sub-devices.
  6. **Wireless Range**: For reliable operation, ensure the E1 switch is within 10 meters of the Zigbee gateway, with no more than two concrete walls between them.

8. Maintenance

  • **Cleaning**: Clean the surface of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • **Environment**: Ensure the device is operated within the specified temperature and humidity ranges to prolong its lifespan.
  • **Battery Replacement (Wireless Models)**: When the app indicates a low battery or if the wireless switch becomes unresponsive, replace the CR2032 battery. Refer to the product's physical instructions for battery compartment access.

9. Troubleshooting

  • **Switch not responding or offline in app**:
    • Ensure your Zigbee gateway is powered on and connected to your home network.
    • Verify the E1 switch is within the effective wireless range of the gateway (typically within 10 meters and no more than two concrete walls).
    • Check if the app's region setting is "Mainland China" if you are experiencing connection issues.
    • For wireless models, check the CR2032 battery level and replace if necessary.
  • **Connected lights are flickering (wired switch)**:
    • Access the switch settings in the app and enable "Anti-flicker mode".
    • Ensure the connected lamp's wattage meets the minimum requirement (Min 3W).
  • **Cannot control smart lights (e.g., color-changing bulbs)**:
    • The Aqara Smart Wall Switch E1 is designed to control standard, non-smart light bulbs by cutting off/restoring power. It is not compatible with smart lights that require continuous power and communicate wirelessly for features like color temperature adjustment or color change.
  • **Gateway reset after switching platforms**:
    • This is expected behavior. When switching between smart home platforms (e.g., from Xiaomi to HomeKit), the gateway often resets to factory settings. You will need to re-pair all sub-devices and re-configure automation rules.

10. User Tips

  • **Gateway Placement**: For the most stable and responsive smart home network, place your Zigbee gateway in a central location within your home, minimizing the number of walls or large obstructions between it and your E1 switches.
  • **Wireless Switch Mounting**: If using a wireless switch as a doorbell or for frequent interaction, consider mounting it on a non-metal surface to ensure consistent signal strength and avoid potential interference.
  • **App Region**: Always ensure your app's region is set to "Mainland China" during initial setup and if you encounter pairing difficulties, as this is often crucial for device compatibility.
  • **Wired vs. Wireless**: Understand the distinction: wired switches directly control power to a light fixture, while wireless switches act as remote triggers for smart devices via the Zigbee hub.
