6. Setup
6.1. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide the cover open.
- Insert two 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: Batteries are not always included in the package. Please check your local shipping regulations.
7. Operating Modes
The device supports various measurement modes to suit different applications:
- Single Measurement: Measures the direct distance between two points.
- Continuous Measurement: Provides real-time distance updates as the device is moved. This mode also displays minimum and maximum values.
- Area Measurement: Calculates the area of a rectangular space by measuring two sides.
- Volume Measurement: Calculates the volume of a space by measuring three dimensions (length, width, height).
- Pythagorean Theorem (Indirect Measurement): Calculates distances indirectly using the Pythagorean theorem (e.g., height of a building by measuring the hypotenuse and base). The device supports both single and double Pythagorean modes.
- Addition and Subtraction: Allows adding or subtracting measurement results.
- Self-Calibration Mode: For fine-tuning the device's accuracy.

8. Basic Operation
8.1. Power On/Off
- To power on, press the READ button.
- To power off, long press the OFF/CLEAR button. The device will automatically shut down after 150 seconds of inactivity.
8.2. Taking a Measurement
- Press the READ button once to activate the laser.
- Aim the laser dot at the target.
- Press the READ button again to take the measurement. The result will be displayed on the main screen.
8.3. Changing Measurement Units
Long press the unit key (often integrated with another function button, refer to device markings) to cycle through available units: meters (m), inches (in), feet (ft), and feet+inches (ft+in).

8.4. Changing Measurement Reference Point
The device can measure from its front or rear edge. Use the 'Measuring Basis' button to switch between these reference points. An icon on the display will indicate the current reference point.
9. Advanced Features
9.1. Data Storage
The device can store up to 99 sets of historical data. Use the 'Historical Data' button to access and review previous measurements. Multiple historical data values can be displayed on the screen simultaneously.
9.2. Self-Calibration
The device features a self-calibration mode to ensure optimal accuracy. Refer to the on-screen prompts or the detailed instructions in the included paper manual for the specific steps to perform self-calibration.
10. Maintenance
- Keep the device clean and dry. Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Store the device in its carrying pouch when not in use to protect it from dust and impacts.
- Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- The device is designed to be durable, offering waterproof, drop-resistant, and dustproof features. However, avoid excessive force or dropping from significant heights.

11. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on | Low or dead batteries; incorrect battery installation | Replace batteries; ensure correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate measurements | Laser obstructed; unstable surface; device needs calibration | Ensure clear laser path; measure on stable surface; perform self-calibration. |
| Display is dim or blank | Low battery; extreme temperatures | Replace batteries; operate within specified temperature range (0-40°C). |
| Error message 'Err 1m' | Measurement out of range or signal interference. | Ensure target is within the specified range and there are no obstructions. |
12. User Tips
- For optimal accuracy, especially for critical measurements, consider performing a self-calibration periodically. The LM60D model, for instance, includes a calibration mode.
- When measuring area, ensure you take two perpendicular measurements for length and width to get an accurate calculation.
- Remember that batteries are often not included, so have AAA 2x1.5V batteries ready for immediate use.
