7. Operating Modes

The device supports various measurement modes to suit different applications:

  • Single Measurement: Measures the direct distance between two points.
  • Continuous Measurement: Provides real-time distance updates as the device is moved. This mode also displays minimum and maximum values.
  • Area Measurement: Calculates the area of a rectangular space by measuring two sides.
  • Volume Measurement: Calculates the volume of a space by measuring three dimensions (length, width, height).
  • Pythagorean Theorem (Indirect Measurement): Calculates distances indirectly using the Pythagorean theorem (e.g., height of a building by measuring the hypotenuse and base). The device supports both single and double Pythagorean modes.
  • Addition and Subtraction: Allows adding or subtracting measurement results.
  • Self-Calibration Mode: For fine-tuning the device's accuracy.

11. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device does not power onLow or dead batteries; incorrect battery installationReplace batteries; ensure correct polarity.
Inaccurate measurementsLaser obstructed; unstable surface; device needs calibrationEnsure clear laser path; measure on stable surface; perform self-calibration.
Display is dim or blankLow battery; extreme temperaturesReplace batteries; operate within specified temperature range (0-40°C).
Error message 'Err 1m'Measurement out of range or signal interference.Ensure target is within the specified range and there are no obstructions.

12. User Tips

  • For optimal accuracy, especially for critical measurements, consider performing a self-calibration periodically. The LM60D model, for instance, includes a calibration mode.
  • When measuring area, ensure you take two perpendicular measurements for length and width to get an accurate calculation.
  • Remember that batteries are often not included, so have AAA 2x1.5V batteries ready for immediate use.
