3. Setup and Assembly
Follow these steps to assemble your TACKLIFE MMD02 Metal Detector:

Figure 4: Visual guide for assembling the metal detector.
- Attach Arm Support: Slide the arm support onto the main handle and secure it with the screw nut.
- Connect Control Box: Attach the control box to the upper stem. Ensure the cable is routed neatly.
- Assemble Stem Sections: Connect the adjustable stem sections. The detector's length can be adjusted from a minimum of 24 inches (61 cm) to a maximum of 45 inches (114 cm) to suit both children and adults. Secure with the lock nut.
- Attach Search Coil: Connect the waterproof search coil to the lower stem using the fixing knob and connector. Wrap the cable securely around the stem to prevent tangling.
- Install Batteries: Open the battery holder compartment and insert the required 9V batteries (two 6F22 9V batteries are typically used). Ensure correct polarity.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Powering On/Off
Press the Power Switch button (red button on the control panel) to turn the metal detector ON or OFF.
4.2 Adjusting Sensitivity
The detector features an adjustable sense function. Use the control buttons to increase or decrease sensitivity. Higher sensitivity allows for deeper detection but may also pick up more ground mineralization, leading to false signals. Adjust as needed for your search environment.
4.3 LCD Display and Audio Feedback
The LCD display provides visual cues about detected objects. When a metal object is found, the corresponding icon will illuminate, and a sound alarm will activate. Different tones indicate different types of metal:
- Low Tone: Typically indicates iron targets.
- Mid Tone: Suggests non-ferrous middle conductivity metals like nickels, small jewelry, screws, or tin foil.
- High Tone: Points to non-ferrous high conductivity metals such as copper, silver, and clad coins.
The Depth Indicator on the LCD provides an estimate of how deep the object is buried.

4.4 Discrimination Setting (DISC Mode)
The DISC button allows you to filter out unwanted metal types. Pressing the DISC button cycles through different discrimination levels:

Figure 6: Visual representation of the discrimination settings.
- 1 Press: Ferrous icons are eliminated from detection. The detector will ignore most iron targets.
- 2 Presses: Ferrous and low conductor non-ferrous targets are eliminated. This setting will ignore iron, nickels, small jewelry, screws, and tin foil.
- 3 Presses: All metal types are detected. This is the "All Metal" mode, providing the highest sensitivity and depth.
4.5 Using the Waterproof Search Coil
The 7.8-inch search coil is waterproof and can be used in shallow water and humid environments, such as beaches or riverbanks. Ensure the control box is kept dry as it is not waterproof.

Figure 7: The waterproof search coil is ideal for beach detecting.

Figure 8: The 7.8" high sensitivity waterproof search coil operates at 6.6 kHz.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in wet or sandy conditions, wipe down the search coil and stem with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box remains dry.
- Battery Care: Always remove batteries when the detector is not in use for extended periods to prevent leakage and damage. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD.
- Storage: Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place. The included carrying bag (Dos-MMD02 bag) is designed for convenient storage and transport, allowing the product to be carried without complete disassembly.

6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power / Detector does not turn on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity. Replace with fresh 9V batteries. |
| Constant beeping or false signals. | High sensitivity setting; ground mineralization; electrical interference. | Reduce sensitivity. Move away from power lines or other electronic devices. Perform ground balance if available (this model has discrimination, not explicit ground balance). |
| Overload Warning displayed. | Search coil too close to a large metal object. | Raise the search coil slightly or move it away from the object. |
| Poor detection depth. | Low battery; incorrect sensitivity; highly mineralized ground. | Replace batteries. Increase sensitivity (if not causing false signals). Sweep slower and closer to the ground. |

8. User Tips
- Slow and Steady: Sweep the search coil slowly and steadily over the ground. Rushing can cause you to miss targets.
- Overlap Sweeps: Ensure each sweep slightly overlaps the previous one to cover the area thoroughly.
- Headphones for Clarity: Using headphones can help you hear subtle target signals more clearly, especially in noisy environments.
- Practice: Familiarize yourself with the detector's tones and display responses by testing it with known metal objects (coins, jewelry) on the surface before heading out for a hunt.
- Adjust for Conditions: Lower sensitivity in highly mineralized ground or areas with a lot of trash to reduce false signals. Use discrimination to filter out common junk metals.
