5. Operation
The GYL9 A-SI Type RCCB operates automatically to detect and interrupt earth leakage currents. It features a test button for periodic verification of its functionality.
5.1 Test Button
A 'Test Monthly' button is located on the front of the device. Pressing this button simulates an earth leakage fault and should cause the RCCB to trip, disconnecting the circuit. This confirms the internal mechanism is functioning correctly.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure the continued reliable operation of your GYL9 A-SI Type RCCB.
- Monthly Test: Press the 'Test Monthly' button at least once a month. If the device does not trip, it may be faulty and should be replaced immediately by a qualified professional.
- Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the device for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
- Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
7. Troubleshooting
If your GYL9 A-SI Type RCCB is not functioning as expected, consider the following:
- Device Does Not Trip During Monthly Test: This indicates a fault within the RCCB. The device must be replaced by a qualified electrician.
- Frequent Nuisance Tripping: While the A-SI type is designed to minimize nuisance tripping, persistent issues might indicate:
- A genuine, intermittent earth leakage fault in the circuit.
- High levels of electrical noise or transient currents in the installation that exceed the device's immunity.
- Incorrect wiring or an overloaded circuit.
- Device Does Not Reset: If the RCCB trips and cannot be reset, there is likely a persistent earth leakage fault in the circuit. Do not attempt to force the reset. Disconnect all loads and try resetting. If it still trips, contact a qualified electrician to identify and rectify the fault.
8. User Tips
- Understanding Poles: The GYL9 A-SI Type RCCB is available in 2-Pole and 4-Pole configurations. Ensure you have the correct number of poles for your specific electrical system (e.g., 2-Pole for single-phase, 4-Pole for three-phase with neutral).
- Installation Environment: The device is rated IP20, meaning it is protected against solid objects over 12.5mm but has no protection against liquids. Ensure it is installed in a dry environment, free from excessive dust or moisture.
- Temperature Considerations: Operate the device within the specified ambient temperature range of -5°C to +40°C. Extreme temperatures can affect performance.
