4. Setup and Installation
-
Motor Selection: Choose the appropriate motor KV rating based on your RC vehicle's requirements and battery voltage. Ensure compatibility with your Electronic Speed Controller (ESC).
Figure 4: Example of a 3650 4500KV motor, recommended for 3S Lipo batteries. -
Mounting: Secure the motor to your RC vehicle's motor mount using appropriate M3 screws. Refer to Figure 2 for mounting hole dimensions (6-M3, 25mm diameter). Ensure the motor is firmly attached to prevent movement during operation.
Figure 5: Close-up view of the motor's shaft and mounting screw holes. -
Pinion Gear Installation: Install the pinion gear onto the motor shaft. The 3650 series motors have a 3.175mm shaft, while 3660, 3665, and 3674 series motors have a 5.0mm shaft. Ensure proper gear mesh with the spur gear to avoid excessive wear and noise.
-
Wiring: Connect the motor's three wires to your ESC. Brushless motors do not have a specific polarity for these three wires; if the motor spins in the wrong direction, swap any two of the three wires between the motor and ESC. The motor uses 4.0mm gold connectors.

ESC Calibration: After connecting the motor, calibrate your ESC according to its specific instructions. This ensures proper communication between the ESC and motor.
5. Operating Instructions
Once installed and calibrated, your YSIDO brushless motor is ready for operation. Always ensure your battery is fully charged and correctly connected to the ESC.
-
Power On: Turn on your RC transmitter first, then connect the battery to the ESC. The ESC will typically emit a series of beeps indicating it's ready.
-
Initial Test: Gently apply throttle to check the motor's rotation direction. If it's incorrect, power off, disconnect the battery, swap two motor wires, and re-test.
-
Running the Vehicle: Operate your RC vehicle as intended. Monitor motor and ESC temperatures, especially during initial runs or after changing gearing. Excessive heat can damage components.
-
Waterproof Feature: The motor is waterproof, making it suitable for use in wet conditions. However, ensure your ESC and other electronic components are also waterproof or adequately protected.
-
Power Off: Disconnect the battery from the ESC first, then turn off your RC transmitter.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in dirty or wet conditions, clean the motor exterior to remove dirt, dust, and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air. For wet conditions, rinse with fresh water and allow to dry completely.
- Bearing Inspection: Periodically check the motor bearings for smooth operation. If you notice any roughness or excessive play, consider replacing them.
- Wire and Connector Check: Inspect all wires and connectors for signs of wear, fraying, or corrosion. Ensure secure connections to prevent power loss or short circuits.
- Temperature Monitoring: Regularly monitor motor temperature during operation. If the motor consistently runs hot, check gearing, battery voltage, and ESC settings.
7. Troubleshooting
- Motor not spinning or stuttering:
- Check all wire connections between the motor and ESC. Ensure the ESC is properly calibrated. Verify battery charge level. If the motor stutters, try swapping any two motor wires.
- Motor runs hot:
- This often indicates incorrect gearing. Try a smaller pinion gear or a larger spur gear. Ensure the motor is not overloaded. Check for any binding in the drivetrain. Verify that the motor's KV rating is appropriate for your battery voltage and vehicle weight.
- Reduced power or speed:
- Check battery voltage and capacity. Inspect motor and ESC connections. Ensure no debris is obstructing the motor's rotation. Verify that the motor is not damaged internally.
- Unusual noises from the motor:
- Check for proper gear mesh. Inspect motor bearings for wear. Ensure no foreign objects are inside the motor or interfering with its rotation.
8. User Tips
- For optimal performance and longevity, always match your motor's KV rating with the recommended battery voltage (e.g., 2S Lipo for higher KV, 3S Lipo for lower KV).
- Consider the application: these motors are suitable for RC cars and boats, specifically 1/10 and 1/12 scale models.
- The metal construction of the motor provides good durability, but proper care and maintenance are still essential.
