4. Operating Instructions
Once connected, operating your KEFAR barcode scanner is straightforward.
4.1. Scanning Barcodes
- Point the scanner's window at the barcode you wish to scan.
- For manual mode, press the trigger button. For auto-scan mode, the scanner will continuously attempt to read codes.
- A successful scan is typically indicated by an audible beep and/or a visual confirmation (e.g., green LED).
- The scanned data will be transmitted to your connected device and appear in the active input field.
4.2. Supported Barcode Types
The H-Series scanners support a wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes. Specific capabilities vary by model:
- 1D Codes: UPC/EAN, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5, Matrix 2 of 5, Codabar, MSI, etc.
- 2D Codes: QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec Code, etc.

4.3. Scanning from Screens
Certain models (CCD and Image scanners) are capable of reading barcodes directly from computer screens and mobile phone displays.
4.4. Limitations
While highly versatile, the scanner may encounter difficulties with codes on severely curved surfaces or extremely complex/damaged barcodes. If you frequently encounter such codes, please contact support for advice or to test specific code types.
5. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your KEFAR barcode scanner, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the scanner's exterior. For the scanning window, use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Battery (for wireless/Bluetooth models): The scanner is equipped with an 1800mAh Li-Ion battery. Recharge the battery when the low battery indicator appears. Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently to prolong its life. Charging typically takes 2-3 hours.
- Storage: Store the scanner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Although designed to be durable, avoid unnecessary drops or impacts.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your barcode scanner, try the following solutions:
6.1. Scanner Not Responding
- Check Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected, or for wireless models, that the 2.4G receiver is plugged in and the scanner is paired via Bluetooth.
- Power: For wireless models, check the battery level and recharge if necessary.
- Restart: Disconnect and reconnect the scanner, or turn it off and on again.
- Try another USB port: Sometimes a USB port might be faulty.
6.2. Barcodes Not Scanning
- Lighting: Ensure adequate lighting. Avoid glare or shadows directly on the barcode.
- Distance/Angle: Adjust the distance and angle between the scanner and the barcode.
- Barcode Quality: Ensure the barcode is clear, not smudged, torn, or excessively faded.
- Scan Mode: Verify the scanner is in the correct scan mode (manual or auto).
- Compatibility: Confirm the scanner model supports the type of barcode you are trying to scan (e.g., 2D scanner for QR codes).
- Complex/Curved Codes: As noted in operating instructions, some complex or highly curved codes may be difficult to read.
6.3. Scanned Data Incorrect or Not Appearing
- Active Window: Ensure the cursor is in the correct input field of your application.
- Keyboard Layout: Check your computer's keyboard layout settings, as this can sometimes affect how scanned data is interpreted.
- Software Issues: Try scanning into a simple text editor (like Notepad) to rule out issues with your primary application.
