4.2. Hard Disk Removal Instructions (PC Mode)

In PC mode, when you need to replace a hard disk or turn off the device, always stop the read-write operation first and then safely remove the device. A forced outage may cause data abnormalities or loss.

4.3. Offline Clone Steps

  1. Connect the external power adapter to the duplicator.
  2. Insert the source disk (containing original data) into the 'Source' slot and the target disk into the 'Target' slot.
  3. Turn on the power and switch to "CLONE" mode. After the duplicator automatically scans and detects the hard disks, the indicator lights will illuminate.
  4. Press the START button twice continuously. A "Di, Di" sound will indicate the start of the cloning process.
  5. As cloning progresses, the corresponding indicators on the panel will flash. Once cloning is complete, all four blue indicator lights will be on, and a bell will ring. After 10 minutes, the hard disk will enter a dormant state.

4.4. Initializing and Formatting New Drives (Microsoft Windows)

New drives must be initialized and formatted to be usable. Follow these directions if you are mounting a new drive:

  1. Ensure the drive is properly mounted in the ORICO dock and the dock is attached to the computer.
  2. Right-click on 'Computer', select 'Manage', then open 'Disk Management' under 'Storage'. A pop-up will suggest that a new drive needs to be initialized. Select the disk(s) and click 'OK' to initialize.
  3. Right-click on the unallocated new drive, select 'New Simple Volume' to start adding a new volume and format it.
  4. Set the volume size for your new volume. You can customize the size or set it to the maximum disk space for a single volume.
  5. Assign a drive letter for the new volume (e.g., C, D, E, F, G).
  6. Format your new volume. You can set the file system (NTFS or FAT32), allocation unit size, and volume label. A quick format is recommended. Click 'Next' once configured.
  7. The formatting process will take 5 to 30 seconds. Once complete, the new volume will be ready for use.

Note on Drive Initialization:

  • For drives not larger than 2TB, especially if using Windows Vista or earlier, initialize with partition style MBR.
  • For drives larger than 2TB, initialize with partition style GPT. Otherwise, only 2TB of the drive will be usable.
  • If the 'Disk Management' window is closed by mistake or doesn't appear, right-click on the 'Disk Number' and select 'Initialize Disk' to bring it up.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1. Clone Operation Notes and Error Warnings

  • The capacity of the target disk must be larger than or equal to that of the source disk. If the target disk capacity is smaller, cloning cannot start.
  • Always back up the data on the target hard disk before cloning, as the data will be erased once cloning begins.
  • The cloning time depends on the capacity of the hard disk; please be patient.
  • Do not turn off the power or remove the disks before the cloning process is finished.
  • The clone function does not require a computer connection, so no USB cable is needed during offline cloning.
  • If the hard disk is only inserted into the target disk position for cloning, the buzzer will continuously ring to indicate an error.
  • If only one hard drive is inserted for cloning, the buzzer will continuously ring to indicate an error.
  • If the capacity of the target disk is less than the source disk, the buzzer will ring for errors, and the indicator light of the corresponding disc will flash.
