User Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The Nobsound MC5 PRO is a compact and versatile stereo 4-channel line mixer designed for various audio mixing applications. It allows users to combine audio signals from up to four different sources, such as CD players, instruments, portable recording devices, and video playback devices, into a single output. The mixer features both active and passive operating modes, providing flexibility for different usage scenarios, including headphone monitoring.

2. Key Features

  • 4-Channel Input: Equipped with four independent 3.5mm AUX inputs for connecting multiple audio sources.
  • Dual Output Options: Features one 3.5mm AUX output and a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack output for versatile connectivity.
  • Active and Passive Modes: Supports two distinct operating modes to suit different power and amplification needs.
  • Independent Volume Control: Each of the four input channels has its own volume knob, allowing for precise level adjustments without interfering with other channels. A master output volume knob controls the overall mix.
  • Compact and Portable: Its mini size and lightweight design make it easy to carry and use in various settings.
  • Ultra-low Noise: Designed to provide high sonic quality with minimal noise, even at maximum output levels.

3. Package Contents

  • Input 1-4 Volume Knobs: Adjust the individual volume levels for each of the four input channels.
  • Output Volume Knob (Master): Controls the overall output volume of the mixed audio signal.
  • Power Indicator (PWR): Illuminates when the device is powered on (in active mode).
  • Mode Switch (MODE): Toggles between Active and Passive operating modes.
  • 3.5mm AUX Inputs (1-4): Connect your audio source devices.
  • 3.5mm AUX Output: Connects to external amplifiers, preamplifiers, or other audio equipment.
  • 3.5mm Headphone Output: For direct headphone monitoring (primarily in active mode).
  • Type-C USB DC 5V IN: Power input for active mode operation.

5. Setup Instructions

5.1 Connecting Audio Sources

  1. Connect your audio source devices (e.g., phone, Xbox, computer, CD player) to the four 3.5mm AUX input jacks on the rear panel of the MC5 PRO. Each input accepts a stereo signal.

5.2 Connecting Audio Outputs

  1. For general audio output to an amplifier, preamplifier, or another mixer, use the 3.5mm AUX output jack on the rear panel.
  2. For direct headphone monitoring, plug your headphones into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the front panel. Note that the front headphone output has priority; if headphones are plugged in, the rear AUX output will automatically disconnect.

5.3 Powering the Device (Active Mode)

  1. If you intend to use the MC5 PRO in active mode (for amplified output or direct headphone monitoring), connect the provided Type-C USB cable to the 'Type-C USB DC 5V IN' port on the rear panel. Connect the other end to a suitable USB power adapter (DC 5V, ≥0.5A).
  2. It is crucial to use an independent USB power supply for the MC5 PRO. Do not share the same power supply with other audio devices to prevent common ground noise.

6. Operating Modes

The MC5 PRO offers two distinct operating modes, selectable via the 'MODE' switch:

6.1 Active Mode

  • Power Requirement: Requires external DC 5V USB power.
  • Functionality: In this mode, the built-in audio amplifier chip is active. It amplifies the mixed audio signal, providing a stronger output.
  • Headphone Monitoring: You can directly connect headphones to the 3.5mm headphone jack for monitoring with sufficient volume.

6.2 Passive Mode

  • Power Requirement: No external power is required.
  • Functionality: The MC5 PRO operates as a pure resistance attenuator. The output audio signal will be slightly attenuated.
  • Headphone Monitoring: The headphone jack output will not provide sufficient volume for direct headphone monitoring. An additional headphone amplifier is needed for this purpose.

7. User Tips

  • For optimal performance and to avoid noise, always use an independent USB power supply when operating in active mode. Do not share the power supply with other audio devices.
  • The front 3.5mm headphone jack output takes priority. If headphones are connected, the rear 3.5mm AUX output will be automatically disabled.
  • If you plan to monitor audio with headphones, active mode is highly recommended to ensure adequate sound levels. In passive mode, the headphone output will be very low and require an external headphone amplifier.
  • To minimize potential interference, keep wireless devices such as Wi-Fi routers or mobile phones away from the MC5 PRO during operation.
  • The MC5 PRO is designed for standard audio signals (e.g., from CD/DVD players, phones). It cannot directly connect to phono turntables or microphones without appropriate pre-amplification.
  • Each input channel on the mixer accepts a stereo signal.

8. Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure the device is stored in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.

9. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
