5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Pre-installation Considerations

Before installing, it is crucial to determine whether the gas you are detecting is heavier or lighter than air. This affects the optimal placement of the sensor.

  • Gases heavier than air: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), etc.
  • Gases lighter than air: Natural gas, manufactured gas, marsh gas, biogas, methane (CH4), etc.

5.2 Sensor Placement

Install the detector at a suitable place according to the weight of the gas and the gas source location:

  • For gases heavier than air (e.g., LPG): Install the sensor 0.3-1.0 meters above the ground and within a 1.5-meter radius from the gas source.
  • For gases lighter than air (e.g., Natural Gas, CH4): Install the sensor 0.3-1.0 meters from the ceiling and within a 1.5-meter radius from the gas source.

Important Installation Notes:

  • Do not install the detector too close to the gas stove to prevent false alarms caused by the flame or oil smoke.
  • Avoid installing near exhaust fans, doors, or windows, as strong air currents can affect the sensor's sensitivity.
  • Do not install in bathrooms or areas with high moisture, which can damage the device.

5.3 Power Connection

The sensor is designed for "Plug and Play" operation. Simply plug the device into a standard power outlet. The power adapter supports various standards (EU, US, AU) and can be replaced if needed.

5.4 Network Connection (Tuya App)

To enable smart features and app notifications, connect your sensor to the Tuya or Smart Life app.

  1. Download the "Tuya Smart" or "Smart Life" app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Register or log in to your account.
  3. For WiFi Version: Follow the in-app instructions to add a new device. Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4G WiFi network (5G networks are not supported).
  4. For Zigbee Version: Ensure you have a Tuya Zigbee Hub/Gateway already set up in your app. Follow the in-app instructions to add a new sub-device (the gas sensor) to your Zigbee gateway.
  5. Once connected, you will receive real-time alerts and monitoring data on your mobile phone.

6. Operation

6.1 Gas Detection and Alarm

The sensor continuously monitors the concentration of combustible gases in its environment. When the detected gas leakage concentration reaches 7% LEL ± 3% LEL for CH4, the device will:

  • Emit a loud audible alarm (70dB/m).
  • Send an immediate notification to your mobile app (if connected).

6.2 Automatic Valve Shut-Off (Advanced Feature)

For enhanced safety, the Zigbee version of the sensor can be integrated with a compatible smart gas valve controller (sold separately). Upon detecting a gas leak, the sensor sends a signal to the smart valve, which can then automatically shut off the gas supply.

6.3 Self-Test Function

The device features a self-test function to ensure its proper operation and sensor integrity. This contributes to energy saving and low power consumption.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the exterior of the sensor with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the ventilation holes are clear of dust and debris.
  • Regular Testing: It is recommended to test the sensor periodically (e.g., monthly) to ensure it is functioning correctly. Refer to the app for any specific testing procedures or indicators.
  • Avoid Obstructions: Ensure that nothing is blocking the sensor's gas intake or the alarm speaker.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Sensor not powering onNo power from outlet; faulty adapter.Check if the outlet is live. Try a different outlet. Ensure the power adapter is securely connected.
No app notificationsSensor not connected to WiFi/Zigbee; app permissions; network issues.Ensure the sensor is properly paired with the Tuya/Smart Life app. Check your home WiFi (2.4G only) or Zigbee gateway connection. Verify app notification permissions on your phone.
False alarmsImproper placement; interference from cooking fumes or strong air currents.Review installation guidelines (Section 5.2) for optimal placement. Ensure the sensor is not too close to cooking areas or ventilation.
Sensor not detecting gasSensor malfunction; incorrect gas type detection.Perform a self-test if available. Ensure the sensor is placed correctly for the specific gas type. If issues persist, contact customer support.

9. User Tips

  • Placement is Key: Always remember that gas density (heavier or lighter than air) dictates the ideal installation height. For example, if detecting LPG (heavier than air), install closer to the floor.
  • No Battery Backup: This sensor operates solely on mains power. In case of a power outage, the sensor will not function. Consider this when planning your home safety strategy.
  • Gas Detection Only: This device is specifically designed for combustible gas detection. It does not detect smoke from fires or carbon monoxide. For comprehensive safety, consider installing separate smoke and CO detectors.
  • Zigbee Gateway for Zigbee Version: If you purchased the Zigbee version, a Tuya Zigbee gateway is essential for its smart functions and app connectivity. It will not work standalone.

10. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
