Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the threads and O-rings of the headlamp. Apply a thin layer of silicone grease to the O-rings to prevent wear and maintain water resistance.
- O-ring Replacement: If the O-rings appear damaged or worn, replace them with the provided spare O-rings to ensure the headlamp remains waterproof.
- Lens Care: Clean the toughened mineral glass lens with a soft, clean cloth to remove dirt or smudges. Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the lens.
- Battery Storage: If the headlamp will not be used for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the battery to prevent potential leakage or damage. Store the battery in a cool, dry place.
- Magnetic Tailcap: The magnetic tailcap allows for hands-free use by attaching the headlamp to metal surfaces. Keep the magnet clean for optimal adhesion.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on | Battery incorrectly installed or depleted. Loose tailcap. | Ensure battery is inserted with positive (+) end towards the head. Charge the battery fully. Tighten the tailcap securely. |
| Light flickers or is unstable | Low battery charge. Dirty or corroded contacts. Loose tailcap. | Recharge the battery. Clean battery contacts and headlamp contacts with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Tighten the tailcap. |
| Headlamp gets hot in Turbo mode | Normal operation for high output. | The headlamp features automatic stepdown from Turbo to High mode to prevent overheating. This is a safety feature and normal behavior. |
| Headlamp only works in Moonlight mode after impact | Internal damage from impact. | Inspect for visible damage. If the issue persists after checking battery and contacts, contact customer support for assistance. |
User Tips
- Brightness Stabilization: The Sofirn HS40 features brightness stabilization, meaning it attempts to maintain a consistent light output as the battery drains, rather than dimming gradually.
- Turbo Mode Stepdown: Be aware that the Turbo mode will automatically step down to a lower brightness level (typically High mode) after approximately 2-3 minutes of continuous use. This is a crucial safety mechanism to prevent the LED from overheating and prolong the lifespan of the headlamp and battery.
- LED Color Temperature: The HS40 is available in 5000K (warmer, more natural light) and 6500K (cooler, whiter light) options. Choose the color temperature that best suits your personal preference and intended use. Many users prefer 5000K for outdoor activities as it can offer better color rendition.
- Versatile Use: Beyond wearing it as a headlamp, utilize the included pocket clip to attach it to clothing or gear, or use the magnetic tailcap to secure it to metal surfaces for hands-free illumination. It can also be used as a compact handheld flashlight.

The Sofirn HS40 offers multiple usage options for diverse scenarios.
