6. Setup Guide
6.1 Driver Installation
- Insert the Mini CD: Place the included Mini CD into your computer's CD/DVD drive. If your computer does not have a CD/DVD drive, please download the latest driver from the official EDUP website (refer to the product packaging or included documentation for the specific link).
- Run the Installer: Navigate to the CD drive or downloaded folder and run the setup file (e.g., 'setup.exe' or 'install.pkg').
- Follow On-Screen Instructions: Proceed through the installation wizard, accepting the license agreement and choosing the installation location if prompted.
- Restart Your Computer: After the driver installation is complete, it is recommended to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
6.2 Hardware Connection
- Attach the Antenna: Gently screw the detachable 5dBi antenna onto the adapter's connector until it is secure.
- Plug into USB 3.0 Port: Insert the EDUP AC1686 Wi-Fi adapter into an available USB 3.0 port on your desktop or laptop. USB 3.0 ports are typically blue internally. While compatible with USB 2.0, using a USB 3.0 port ensures optimal performance.
- Verify Connection: Once connected, a blue LED indicator on the adapter should light up, indicating it is powered on and ready for use.

7. Operating Modes
7.1 Client Mode (Station Mode)
In Client Mode, the adapter functions as a standard Wi-Fi receiver, allowing your computer to connect to an existing wireless network (e.g., your home router). After driver installation and hardware connection, your operating system should detect the adapter. You can then use your system's network settings to scan for available Wi-Fi networks and connect to your desired network by entering the password.
7.2 Soft AP Mode (Access Point Mode)
The Soft AP mode allows the adapter to create a Wi-Fi hotspot, sharing your computer's wired internet connection wirelessly with other devices. This is useful if your desktop has a wired connection and you want to provide Wi-Fi to your smartphone, tablet, or other laptops.
- Enable Soft AP: Open the utility software installed with the driver. Look for an option to switch to 'AP Mode' or 'Soft AP'.
- Configure Hotspot: Set a Network Name (SSID) and a strong password for your new Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Connect Devices: Other wireless devices can now search for your hotspot's SSID and connect using the password you set.

8. Troubleshooting
- Adapter Not Detected: Ensure the adapter is firmly plugged into a USB port. Try a different USB port, preferably a USB 3.0 port. Reinstall the drivers.
- No Wi-Fi Networks Found: Verify that the antenna is securely attached. Check if your router is broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal. Ensure drivers are correctly installed.
- Slow Connection Speed: Ensure you are connected to the 5GHz band if available and your router supports it. Make sure the adapter is plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Reduce interference by moving closer to the router or away from other electronic devices.
- Soft AP Not Working: Confirm your computer has an active wired internet connection. Check the Soft AP settings in the utility software for correct configuration (SSID, password).
9. User Tips
- Optimal Driver: Always use the latest drivers available from the manufacturer's website for the best performance and compatibility.
- USB 3.0 for Speed: To achieve the advertised 1300Mbps speeds, ensure the adapter is connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer.
- Antenna Positioning: Adjust the antenna's orientation to optimize signal strength. Sometimes a slight change in angle can significantly improve performance.
- Dual-Band Advantage: For high-bandwidth activities like streaming and gaming, connect to the 5GHz network. Use the 2.4GHz network for general browsing and when a longer range is needed.

10. Maintenance
- Keep Drivers Updated: Periodically check the EDUP website for updated drivers to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Clean Gently: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the adapter. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Store Properly: When not in use, store the adapter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Avoid Physical Damage: Handle the adapter and antenna with care to prevent bending or breaking the USB connector or antenna.
