3. Setup Instructions

3.1 NVR and Camera Connections

The MOVOLS POE Security Camera System utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, simplifying wiring and installation. A single network cable transmits both video data and power to each camera.

  1. Connect the NVR to a power source using the provided NVR Power Adapter.
  2. Connect each POE IP Camera to the NVR's PoE ports using the 18M LAN Cables. No separate power adapters are required for the cameras.
  3. Connect a monitor to the NVR via the HDMI or VGA port.
  4. Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the NVR for navigation.
  5. For remote viewing, connect the NVR to your network router using a LAN cable.
  6. If an optional Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is included, ensure it is properly installed in the NVR for video storage.

3.2 Remote Viewing Setup

To access your security system remotely, follow these steps:

  1. Search and Download App: Download the "BSS Mobile Pro" app from the Google Play Store (for Android) or Apple App Store (for iOS).
  2. Connect Camera and NVR: Ensure your cameras are connected to the NVR and the NVR is connected to your network via a LAN cable.
  3. Scan QR Code: On the NVR's display, navigate to the network settings to find the QR code. Use the "BSS Mobile Pro" app on your smartphone to scan this QR code.
  4. Enjoy Live Viewing: Once connected, you can enjoy live viewing of your cameras from anywhere.
Steps for remote viewing setup: download app, connect devices, scan QR code, live view

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Two-Way Audio

Each camera is equipped with a built-in microphone and speaker, enabling two-way audio communication. This allows you to listen to the environment around the camera and speak through it using the mobile app.

4.2 Night Vision Modes (AI Full Color Night Vision)

The cameras offer three distinct night vision modes:

  • White Light ON (All Day Full Color): The camera's white lights are continuously on, providing full-color images day and night.
  • White Light OFF (IR Night Vision): Only infrared (IR) lights are active, resulting in black and white night vision.
  • White Light Auto ON/OFF (AI Full Color Night Vision): In this intelligent mode, the camera operates in IR night vision (black and white) by default. When motion is detected at night, the camera automatically activates its white lights to capture full-color images and deter intruders.

4.3 Motion Detection and Alerts

The system features advanced motion detection capabilities to keep you informed of any activity.

  • Instant Alerts: When movement is detected in the monitoring area, an instant email notification will be sent to your mailbox, and a push notification will be sent to your phone via the app.
  • Deterrent Effect: If motion is detected at night, the cameras can automatically turn on their white lights, acting as a visual deterrent.
  • Customizable Detection Zones: You can define specific motion detecting zones to focus surveillance on critical areas and ignore irrelevant movements.
  • Adjustable Sensitivity: Adjust the motion detection sensitivity to minimize false alerts caused by environmental factors like swaying trees or small animals.

4.5 Video Compression (H.265)

The system utilizes advanced H.265 video compression technology. This allows for a 50% reduction in file size compared to H.264, while maintaining the same video quality. This means more efficient storage usage and faster transmission speeds.

Comparison of H.264 and H.265 video compression, showing H.265 uses less storage and bandwidth

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MOVOLS security camera system, regular maintenance is recommended:

  • Camera Cleaning: Periodically clean the camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or water spots that may obstruct the view. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect all cables for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Secure or replace any compromised cables to prevent signal loss or power issues.
  • NVR Ventilation: Ensure the NVR is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Keep its vents clear of obstructions.
  • Software Updates: Check for firmware updates for your NVR and cameras through the mobile app or official website. Keeping your system updated ensures access to the latest features and security patches.
  • Hard Drive Health (if applicable): If your NVR has a hard drive, monitor its health through the NVR's interface. Regular backups of important footage are recommended.

The cameras are designed with an IP66 waterproof rating, making them suitable for outdoor use and resistant to harsh weather conditions including rain, snow, intense cold (-40℃) and heat (50℃).

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your MOVOLS security camera system.

  • Camera Not Working / No Image:
    • Check the PoE connection: Ensure the LAN cable is securely connected to both the camera and the NVR's PoE port.
    • Verify NVR power: Make sure the NVR is powered on and its power adapter is functioning correctly.
    • Test with another port/cable: Try connecting the camera to a different PoE port on the NVR or using a different LAN cable to rule out faulty hardware.
    • Restart NVR: Power cycle the NVR by unplugging it for a few seconds and plugging it back in.
  • Night Vision Not Functioning:
    • Check camera settings: Ensure the night vision mode is correctly configured (e.g., Auto or IR ON) in the camera settings via the NVR interface or mobile app.
    • Verify IR/White Light sensors: Ensure the IR sensors or white lights on the camera are not obstructed.
    • Environmental factors: Extreme darkness or bright ambient light sources nearby can sometimes interfere with automatic night vision activation.
  • Cannot Access Remotely:
    • Check NVR network connection: Ensure the NVR is properly connected to your router and has internet access.
    • Verify app settings: Double-check the device ID or QR code scanned in the "BSS Mobile Pro" app.
    • Router settings: Ensure your router is not blocking the NVR's internet access. You might need to configure port forwarding if direct access is required, though P2P usually bypasses this.
  • Password Recovery:
    • If you forget your NVR or camera password, refer to the detailed instructions in the Quick Start Guide or contact MOVOLS customer support for assistance. Do not attempt unauthorized password resets as this may void your warranty.
  • HDD Issues (if applicable):
    • If the HDD is not recognized or recording, ensure it is correctly installed and connected inside the NVR. Check the NVR's storage settings to format or initialize the drive if necessary.
