Operating Instructions
1. Understanding Modes: Preset vs. Stompbox
The M-vave Chocolate MIDI Controller supports two primary modes for guitar effects:
- Preset Mode: Allows you to switch between entirely new rigs, including new amps, new pedals, and overall sound configurations.
- Stompbox Mode: Enables control over one or more individual pedals or effects within your current rig, similar to physical stompboxes.
If using Preset Mode, you can directly open BIAS FX 2 (or similar software) once connected, as the pedal is pre-configured for this mode.
2. Enabling MIDI Control in BIAS FX 2
To use the MIDI controller with BIAS FX 2, ensure MIDI control is enabled within the application:
- Go to the 'Settings' menu in BIAS FX 2.
- Scroll down to 'MIDI Settings'.
- Toggle 'ENABLE MIDI CONTROL' to the ON position.
3. Assigning MIDI CC Commands (Stompbox Mode)
For Stompbox Mode, you need to assign custom MIDI CC commands to each footswitch:
- In the CubeSuite app, navigate to the 'EquipmentList' and select 'FootCtrl'.
- Scroll down and choose 'Custom control'.
- Assign MIDI channels to the footswitches (A, B, C, D). For example, you can assign 'Bank Select MSB' to footswitch A (MIDI CC1), 'Modulation Wheel MSB' to footswitch B (MIDI CC1), 'Breath Control MSB' to footswitch C (MIDI CC2), and an 'Undefined' MIDI CC to footswitch D (MIDI CC3). Ensure each footswitch has a unique MIDI channel to avoid overlaps.
- In BIAS FX 2, long-press the pedal icon you wish to control. A 'MIDI ASSIGNMENT' window will appear.
- Click the 'LEARN' button next to the parameter you want to control (e.g., Power Toggle, Drive, Tone, Level).
- Press the desired footswitch on your M-vave Chocolate controller. The MIDI CC command will be learned and assigned.
You can assign the same footswitch to control multiple effects simultaneously by repeating the learning process for each effect with the same footswitch.
4. Page Turner Functionality
The M-vave Chocolate can also function as a page turner. This feature is supported by certain iOS page turner apps, such as iBook.
5. Tap Tempo and Tuner Control
The MIDI controller can be used for tap tempo and to toggle your tuner on/off in compatible software:
- In BIAS FX 2, go to 'Settings' > 'MIDI Settings' > 'GLOBAL MIDI CONTROL ASSIGNMENTS'.
- Under 'UTILITY', locate 'TAP TEMPO' and 'TUNER ON/OFF'.
- Click the 'LEARN' button next to the desired function and press the footswitch you wish to assign.
User Tips
- DAW/Software Compatibility: The M-vave Chocolate is compatible with various Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and effects software like BIAS FX and Amplitube, allowing for versatile control over your digital guitar rig.
- MIDI Master via Bluetooth: The device supports connection with MIDI Master via Bluetooth, expanding its wireless control capabilities.
- ZOOM MS50G Compatibility: While designed for broader MIDI control, specific compatibility with devices like the ZOOM MS50G should be tested, as it depends on the ZOOM device's MIDI implementation.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your M-vave Chocolate MIDI Controller, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the device. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish or internal components.
- Storage: Store the controller in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
- Handling: Handle the device with care to prevent physical damage. Avoid dropping it or exposing it to excessive force.
- Battery Care: For optimal battery health, avoid completely draining the battery frequently. Charge it regularly, especially if storing for extended periods.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot connect via Bluetooth. | Bluetooth is off on the device or controller. Controller battery is low. App not scanning. | Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both your phone/tablet and the MIDI controller. Charge the controller. Restart the CubeSuite app and try scanning again. |
