4. Setup and Configuration

The N4DIG08 module offers three functional modes, which are selected by configuring jumpers on the board. Refer to the diagram below for jumper settings.

4.1 Jumper Settings

5. Operating Modes

The N4DIG08 module supports three primary operating modes based on jumper configuration:

5.1 8-Channel Input Mode

In this mode, all 8 channels (IN1-IN8) function as digital inputs. It supports 3.3V/5V TTL level signals. The default input mode is low level, but it can be configured for high level input via a configuration register.

5.2 8-Channel Output Mode

When configured for 8-channel output, all 8 channels (OUT1-OUT8) provide 5V TTL level output. The default output is PNP low level, with NPN high level output configurable via a configuration register. This mode is suitable for driving relay solenoid valve circuits.

5.3 4 Input / 4 Output Mode

This hybrid mode utilizes channels 1-4 as digital inputs (IN1-IN4) and channels 5-8 as digital outputs (OUT5-OUT8). This configuration is ideal for applications requiring both input sensing and output control from a single module.

6.4 RS485 Communication Wiring

The N4DIG08 module communicates via RS485. Multiple modules can be daisy-chained, each with a unique Slave ID (1 to 247).

7. Modbus RTU Commands

The N4DIG08 module operates using MODBUS RTU commands (03, 06, 16). In MODBUS command mode, you can set different "Slave ID" for each module, allowing up to 247 devices to be used in parallel on a single RS485 bus. The input port status supports both query (default) and automatic reporting. The default baud rate is 9600BPS, which can be configured to 1200, 2400, 4800, or 19200 BPS.

  • Communication errors: Check for proper termination resistors on the RS485 bus if experiencing issues over long distances or with many devices. Ensure no duplicate Slave IDs are present on the bus.
