5. Installation
The SPM01 energy meter is designed for quick and easy installation within your electrical panel. Please follow these steps carefully.
5.1. Pre-installation Checklist
- Ensure you have the correct version (Zigbee or WiFi) for your smart home setup.
- Confirm the device's specifications (e.g., 63A max current) are suitable for your application.
- Gather necessary tools: screwdriver, voltage tester.
5.2. Installation Steps
- Turn off Power: Open your electrical panel and turn off the main power supply to prevent electric shock. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Disconnect Live Wire: Disconnect the live wire connected to the circuit breaker where you intend to install the energy meter.
- Determine Current Direction: The energy meter has an arrow printed on its cover. Ensure the current's direction matches the direction of this arrow when passing the live wire through the meter's hole.
- Pass the Wire: Carefully pass the disconnected live wire through the designated through-hole on the energy meter.
- Reconnect Wires: Reconnect the live wire (now passing through the energy meter) back to the circuit breaker. Connect the neutral wire from the energy meter to the neutral bus bar in your electrical panel.
- Secure Connections: Ensure all wire connections are tight and secure.
- Restore Power: Close your electrical panel and reconnect the main power supply.

6. Operation
The Zemismart SPM01 energy meter provides comprehensive monitoring and control through the Tuya Smart Life App.
6.1. Device Pairing
After physical installation and restoring power, you need to pair the device with your smart home system.
- Enter Reset Mode: Press and hold the reset button on the energy meter until the indicator light flashes quickly.
- For Zigbee Version:
a. Download the "Smart Life" app and turn on your phone's Bluetooth.
b. Ensure you have a paired Zigbee gateway (hub) in your Smart Life app.
c. In the Smart Life app, navigate to your Zigbee Gateway and tap "Add subdevice."
d. Confirm the device's LED is blinking and tap "LED already blink."
e. The app will discover and add the device. Tap "Done" once added. - For WiFi Version:
a. Download the "Smart Life" app and turn on your phone's Bluetooth.
b. In the Smart Life app, tap the "+" icon to add a new device.
c. The app may automatically discover the device. If not, select "Add Manually" and choose "Electrical" > "Socket (Wi-Fi)" or similar.
d. Enter your Wi-Fi network credentials (SSID and password).
e. The app will connect and add the device. Tap "Done" once added.

6.2. Tuya APP Control & Monitoring
Once paired, you can monitor and manage your energy usage through the Smart Life (Tuya) App.
- View Electricity Consumption: The app displays total forward energy (kWh), total reverse energy (kWh), and current daily energy consumption charts.
- Real-time Data: View current (A), voltage (V), active power (kW), power factor, and frequency (Hz) in real-time.
- Electricity Consumption Statistics: Click on "Electricity consumption statistics" in the lower left corner of the app interface to view detailed historical data (daily, monthly, yearly).
- More Data: Access "More Data" from the settings menu to view detailed voltage, current, and active power data.
- Alarm Messages: The device can send alarm messages if key parameters exceed set thresholds (e.g., High-Power Alarm, Over/Under Voltage, High Temperature, High Consumption). These can be configured in the app's "Alarm set" menu.
- Data Report Duration: The default data reporting time can be modified in the app under "Alarm set" > "Data Report Duration." (Default: Zigbee Version 600 seconds, WiFi Version 300 seconds).
- Energy Management: On the device settings page, click "Energy management" to clear existing energy data.

6.3. Dynamic Load Balancing
The energy meter can assist in dynamic load balancing by monitoring power consumption. This helps in making informed decisions to manage high-priority and low-priority loads, preventing overloads, especially during peak periods or when adding high-power appliances like EV chargers.

6.4. Home Assistant Integration (Zigbee Version)
The Zigbee version of the SPM01 energy meter can be integrated with Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT, allowing for advanced automation and monitoring within your Home Assistant setup. Key electrical data such as voltage, current, and power can be monitored.

7. User Tips
- Three-Phase Systems: For three-phase electrical installations, you will need to install three separate SPM01 units, one for each electrical phase, as each unit measures only one phase.
- App Compatibility: The device is controlled via the Tuya Smart Life App.
- Zigbee2MQTT: The Zigbee version of the SPM01 is compatible with Zigbee2MQTT for integration with Home Assistant.
- Automation: You can create smart automations within the app to deactivate other smart plugs or devices when the energy meter detects that your consumption exceeds a predefined threshold.
- Consumption Data: The device provides total accumulated consumption but does not differentiate between night and day consumption periods.
- Frequency: The device operates correctly at both 50Hz and 60Hz frequencies.
8. Troubleshooting
- Device Not Powering On: Check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and correctly installed. Verify that the main power supply is on.
