3.2 Interface Configuration

The product defaults to a 6800 parallel port interface. It also supports SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) communication.

Changing to SPI Interface:

  1. Remove the resistance at position PS_H J68 L_CS.
  2. Simultaneously solder a zero-ohm resistor at position L_PS JCS.

If you require an SPI LCD and are unsure about this modification, please contact the manufacturer for assistance.

4. Operating Instructions

The SEH1602E-OLED module functions as a standard 16x2 character display. Once properly connected and powered, you can send commands and data to the WS0010-TX controller IC via the configured interface (6800 parallel or SPI) to display text and characters. The module supports various built-in fonts for different languages.

4.1 Displaying Text

To display text, send character data to the module's data pins (DB0-DB7) while controlling the RS (Register Select) and E (Enable) pins according to the WS0010-TX controller datasheet. The RS pin determines whether the data being sent is a command or character data.

  • RS = Low (0V): Command mode. Data sent is interpreted as an instruction to the controller (e.g., clear display, set cursor position).
  • RS = High (VDD): Data mode. Data sent is displayed as characters on the screen.

The E pin is used to latch the data or command into the controller. A typical sequence involves setting RS and R/W, placing data on DB0-DB7, pulsing E from high to low, and then waiting for the operation to complete.

4.2 Available Character Sets

The module includes four built-in font sets:

  • English/Japanese
  • West European
  • Scandinavian European
  • Cyrillic (Russian)

Refer to the WS0010-TX controller datasheet for specific commands to select and utilize these character sets.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your OLED display module, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the display surface with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive pressure, as these can damage the screen.
  • Handling: Handle the module by its edges to avoid touching the display area or the electronic components on the PCB. Static electricity can damage sensitive components, so use appropriate ESD precautions.
  • Storage: Store the module within the specified storage temperature range (-30℃ to +80℃) in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • Power Supply: Ensure the power supply voltage is within the specified range (5V/3.3V) to prevent damage.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the module within the specified operating temperature range (-20℃ to +70℃). Avoid exposure to extreme humidity or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your OLED display module, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Display/Blank Screen:
    • Verify power connections (VDD, VSS) and ensure the correct voltage (5V/3.3V) is applied.
    • Check all data and control line connections (RS, R/W, E, DB0-DB7) for proper wiring and continuity.
    • Confirm the interface configuration (parallel or SPI) matches your setup and that any necessary resistance modifications have been correctly performed.
    • Ensure the module is receiving initialization commands from your microcontroller.
  • Incorrect Characters/Garbled Display:
    • Check the timing of your data and control signals. Refer to the WS0010-TX datasheet for precise timing requirements.
    • Verify that the correct character set is selected if you are using non-English characters.
    • Ensure the data lines (DB0-DB7) are correctly connected and not swapped.
  • Partial Display/Missing Lines:
    • Inspect for any physical damage to the display or connections.
    • Recheck power supply stability.
  • Compatibility with other controllers:
    • This module uses the WS0010-TX controller. If your application requires a different controller (e.g., OLED-0010), direct compatibility is not guaranteed. You may need to adapt your code or consider a different module.
