4. Setup Instructions

4.1 Connecting to Mac mini

  1. Place the Hagibis USB C Hub on a stable surface.
  2. Carefully place your Mac mini on top of the Hagibis USB C Hub, ensuring proper alignment.
  3. Connect the included USB-C cables from the hub to the corresponding USB-C ports on your Mac mini.

4.2 Installing Storage (HDD/SSD)

The hub supports both M.2 NVMe/NGFF SSDs and 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSDs (up to 10mm thickness).

  1. Turn the hub upside down.
  2. Remove the bottom cover to access the hard drive bays.
  3. For 2.5-inch SATA drives: Insert the 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD into the designated slot, ensuring it clicks into place.
  4. For M.2 NVMe/NGFF SSDs: Insert the M.2 SSD into the M.2 slot. Secure it with the provided screw or clip. The hub supports both M key and B&M key M.2 interfaces.
  5. Replace the bottom cover.

Important Note for Dual Hard Drives:

When using two hard disks simultaneously, power consumption increases. To ensure stable operation and prevent insufficient power supply, it is recommended to connect an additional power source to the USB-C (B) port on the rear of the hub.

4.3 Connecting Peripherals

The hub provides various ports for connecting your devices:

  • USB 3.0 Ports (5Gbps): Connect USB-A devices such as keyboards, mice, external hard drives, or USB flash drives.
  • USB 3.1 Gen2 Port (10Gbps): For high-speed USB-A devices.
  • USB-C Port (10Gbps): For high-speed USB-C devices.
  • SD/Micro SD Card Slots: Insert your SD or Micro SD cards for data transfer.
  • DP1.4 Port (4K/60Hz) (MC25 Pro DP model only): Connect an external monitor for dual screen expansion.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Port Functionality

  • When USB-C (A) connects to devices, all interfaces except the DisplayPort can be used.
  • When USB-C (B) connects to devices, only the DisplayPort interface can be used.
  • When both USB-C (A) and USB-C (B) ports are connected to the device simultaneously, all interfaces on the hub can be used.

5.2 Dual Screen Expansion (MC25 Pro DP model only)

The DP1.4 HD interface supports 4K/60Hz high resolution, allowing your Mac mini to achieve dual screen extended or mirrored display. Ensure the USB-C (B) port is connected to your Mac mini when using the DP port.

5.3 LED Indicators

  • Green LED Light: Indicates M.2 SSD activity. It flashes fast when the M.2 SSD is working.
  • White LED Light: Indicates 2.5-inch SATA drive activity. It flashes fast when the SATA drive is working and slowly when sleeping.

5.4 High Speed Transmission

The hub supports 10Gbps data transfer, allowing you to transmit 1GB large files in approximately 1 second. Please note that due to limitations of the Apple M1 chip, the actual reading and writing speeds may be lower than on non-M1 chip computers.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Do not disassemble the device, as this will void the warranty.
  • The device features an anti-skid design with 4 pads on the back to prevent movement.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device not recognized: Ensure all USB-C cables are securely connected between the hub and your Mac mini. Try restarting your Mac mini.
  • Hard drive not appearing: Check if the hard drive is correctly installed in its bay. For new drives, ensure they are properly formatted for macOS. If using dual hard drives, ensure additional power is supplied to the USB-C (B) port.
  • Slow data transfer speeds: While the hub supports high speeds, actual performance can be limited by your Mac mini's M1 chip or the specifications of your hard drive. Ensure you are using high-quality cables.
  • DisplayPort not working (MC25 Pro DP only): Verify that the USB-C (B) port is connected to your Mac mini, as this port is required for DP functionality. Check monitor cable connections.
  • Compatibility with older Mac mini models: This hub is designed for Mac mini M1/M2 models and may not be compatible with older versions (e.g., Mac mini 2014, 2018).
  • Compatibility with Windows PC: The hub can be used with Windows PCs, functioning as a multi-hub and external drive enclosure.

8. User Tips

  • For optimal performance, especially when using both M.2 and 2.5-inch drives, consider connecting an external power source to the USB-C (B) port.
  • The hub can serve as an excellent solution for expanding storage on your Mac mini M1/M2, effectively acting as an external SSD/HDD case.
  • While designed for Mac mini, this versatile hub is also compatible with Windows PCs, offering similar expansion benefits.
  • The DP1.4 port on the MC25 Pro DP model supports dual screen expansion (extended or mirrored) but does not support triple display setups.
