Setup Guide

Unboxing and Initial Setup

Watch this video for a visual guide on unboxing and initial setup of your smart water timer.
  1. Insert Two AA Batteries: Remove the battery tray from the water timer and insert 2 new AA alkaline batteries. Ensure correct polarity. Firmly reinstall the battery tray. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (nickel cadmium) batteries. Used or dead batteries must be removed and disposed of properly.
  2. Install the Timer: Connect the water timer to an outdoor hose faucet. Your timer is now ready to be used with any product that can be attached to a standard hose faucet. Do not place the timer in an underground valve box or anywhere your Bluetooth signal will be obstructed.
  3. Turn on Your Water: The water supply to the faucet must remain on for the timer to function properly.

The Bluetooth water timer allows for flexible scheduling:

  • Normal Schedule: Set specific start times and watering durations. You can choose specific days of the week for these schedules.
  • Cycle/Soak: Configure a repeating schedule within a defined working time window, specifying watering duration and interval.

You can set watering durations from 1 minute up to 24 hours, and watering frequency from every minute up to every 24 hours, or on specific days of the week.

Smart Automation and Multi-Device Control

Diagram showing one Wi-Fi hub controlling multiple timers
One Wi-Fi Hub can manage up to 32 devices, including multiple water timers.

When connected to the Wi-Fi Hub, the system supports intelligent automation settings and scene linkage. This allows for advanced control based on various conditions like temperature, humidity, weather, and more. One Wi-Fi Hub can connect and control up to 32 water timers or other Tuya-compatible smart devices, and you can share device control with family members.

Maintenance

  • Battery Care: Always use 2 new AA alkaline batteries for the water timer. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries. Remove used or dead batteries promptly to prevent corrosion and ensure proper disposal.
  • Filter Cleaning: The water timer has a built-in stainless steel mesh filter at the inlet. Regularly inspect and clean this filter to prevent debris from accumulating, which can affect water flow and timer performance.
  • Waterproof Rating: The timer has an IP55 waterproof rating, making it suitable for outdoor use. However, for prolonged durability, avoid exposing it to extreme weather conditions unnecessarily.
  • Winter Storage: During freezing temperatures, remove the water timer from the faucet and store it indoors in a dry, protected area to prevent damage from ice expansion.

Troubleshooting

  • No Connection/Signal Issues:
    • Ensure the Wi-Fi Hub is plugged into an indoor outlet and has a stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection.
    • Verify the water timer is within 15 meters (50ft) of the Wi-Fi Hub for Bluetooth connection.
    • Avoid placing the timer in underground valve boxes or areas with physical obstructions that could block the Bluetooth signal.
    • Check the battery levels of the water timer in the app.
  • Watering Not Starting/Stopping:
    • Confirm the main water supply to the faucet is turned on.
    • Review the app schedule for correct times, durations, and active days.
    • Ensure the water timer's batteries are not depleted.
    • Check for any active rain delay settings that might be postponing watering.
  • App Issues:
    • Ensure the Smart Life App is updated to the latest version.
    • Try restarting the app or your smartphone.
    • If problems persist, consider re-pairing the device following the setup instructions.
  • Remote Control Not Working:
    • Confirm that the Wi-Fi Hub is successfully connected to your home Wi-Fi network. The gateway must be online for remote access from outside your local Bluetooth range.

User Tips

  • Water Conservation: Actively use the rain delay feature to postpone watering during rainy periods. This can significantly reduce water usage and save resources.
  • Flexible Scheduling: The timer's ability to set watering durations as short as 1 minute makes it highly versatile for various irrigation methods, including drip irrigation and misting systems, ensuring your plants get just the right amount of water.
  • Remote Access: For seamless control from anywhere, ensure your Wi-Fi Hub is always connected to a stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. This allows you to manage your watering schedules even when you're away from home.
  • Smart Home Integration: Leverage the compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. You can set up advanced automation routines using other smart sensors (e.g., presence sensors) to trigger watering based on specific conditions.
  • Hose Length: The maximum length of hose supported by the timer is primarily dependent on your water pressure and the timer's flow rate, not an inherent limitation of the timer itself. Ensure your water pressure is within the specified range for optimal performance with longer hoses.
  • Independent Operation: Once programmed, the timing schedule can continue to run even if the gateway or mobile phone connection is temporarily lost, ensuring consistent watering.
