Charging the Jump Starter

Before first use, fully charge your UTRAI Jstar 4. It takes approximately 4-5 hours for a full charge using a 5V/2A charger.

Charging Methods:

  • At Home: Connect the provided USB to Type-C cable to a computer or any USB 2A wall adapter (not included). Plug the Type-C end into the jump starter.
  • In Car: Use a car adapter (not included) plugged into your vehicle's socket, then connect the Type-C cable to the jump starter.
  • Outdoor: A solar charging panel (not included) can be used. Ensure the output voltage/current is ≤DC5V/3A to prevent the jump starter from entering protection mode.

Operating Instructions: Jump Starting a Vehicle

The Jstar 4 is designed to jump start most 12V vehicles, including cars, boats, motorcycles, ATVs/UTVs, and trucks with gas engines up to 8.0L and diesel engines up to 7.0L.

4-Step Jump Start Process:

  1. Connect the Smart Clamp: Ensure the jump starter has more than 50% power. Fully insert the smart clamp plug into the jump starter's port. The red and green lights on the smart clamp will flash alternately.
  2. Connect to Car Battery: Connect the red clamp to the positive (+) electrode of the car battery and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal. Once connected correctly, only the green light on the smart clamp will illuminate.
  3. Start the Vehicle: Enter your vehicle and start the engine.
  4. Disconnect and Pack Away: Once the vehicle starts, immediately remove the smart clamp from the car battery, then disconnect it from the jump starter.

Maintenance

  • Store the jump starter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the lithium battery. It is recommended to charge it to about 80% for storage.
  • Recharge the device every 3-6 months if not in regular use to maintain battery health.
  • Keep the smart clamps clean and free from dirt or corrosion.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • Device not turning on: Ensure the device is charged. If the battery is completely depleted, it may take a few minutes of charging before it responds.
  • Vehicle not starting:
    • Check that the smart clamps are securely connected to the correct battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative).
    • Ensure the smart clamp indicator light is green. If it's flashing or red, refer to the error codes below.
    • Verify the jump starter has sufficient charge (above 50%).
  • LCD shows error codes (e.g., '188', '888', 'HT', 'LV', 'SC', 'RC'): The smart clamp's LCD can display various fault indicators. Refer to the image below for common codes and their meanings. If an error persists, ensure all connections are correct and the vehicle battery is not severely damaged.

User Tips

  • Battery Capacity: While advertised with a high capacity, user experience suggests the real usable capacity is around 16000 mAh. This is still sufficient for multiple jump starts.
  • Charge Retention: The device holds its charge well, with minimal drop (around 10%) over half a year, especially when stored in moderate temperatures.
  • Starting without a Car Battery: Yes, the UTRAI Jstar 4 can start a car even if the car's battery is completely dead or removed.
  • Lithium Battery Care: For longevity, avoid completely discharging the jump starter's lithium battery. It's best to charge it to about 80% for storage and avoid letting it drop to 0% frequently.
  • High Power Output: The device delivers significant current for starting, which can cause the cables to warm up. This is normal during high-current discharge.
