1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your Godox K-180A 180Ws Photography Studio Flash Strobe Light Kit. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the equipment and keep it for future reference.

2. Safety Information

Always observe basic safety precautions when using electrical equipment to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.

  • Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
  • Do not disassemble the unit. If repairs are needed, contact qualified service personnel.
  • Ensure the power voltage matches the unit's requirements (AC220/60Hz or 110V/60Hz).
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Unplug the unit from the power source before cleaning or when not in use.
  • Avoid prolonged continuous use of the modeling lamp; allow it to cool down for at least 1 minute after 5 minutes of continuous use to prevent overheating.

4. Setup Instructions

4.1. Light Stand Assembly

Unfold the light stand legs and extend the telescopic sections to the desired height. Ensure all locking knobs are securely tightened.

4.2. Flash Unit Preparation

  1. Mount the K-180A flash unit onto the top stud of the light stand.
  2. Adjust the mounting bracket to achieve the desired angle and securely tighten it.
  3. The umbrella input is available for attaching a studio umbrella if desired.

4.3. Softbox Assembly

Assemble the FS50X70cm Grid Softbox according to its specific instructions. Attach it to the universal mount on the flash unit.

4.4. RT-16 Trigger Setup

Insert the 23A 12V battery into the transmitter and 2 AAA batteries into the receiver (AAA batteries for receiver not included). Connect the receiver to the flash unit's sync port.

4.5. Power Connection

Connect the power cord to the flash unit's power socket and then to a suitable AC power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

Flip the Power Switch (labeled 'POWER') to turn the flash unit ON or OFF. The Charging LED Indicator will illuminate during charging.

5.2. Modeling Lamp Control

Use the Modeling Light Switch (labeled 'MODEL') to turn the modeling lamp ON or OFF. Pushing it downwards (G position) turns it off, upwards (F position) turns it on. Note: Do not keep the modeling lamp on for too long; it is recommended to cool it down for 1 minute after 5 minutes of continuous use.

5.3. Flash Output Control

Rotate the Flash Output Controller (labeled with '+' and '-') to adjust the flash power. The output is stepless from 1/8 to full power. This allows for precise light requirements in different environments.

5.4. Test Button

To test the flash or before taking a picture, push the Test Button (labeled 'TEST'). This can also be used to adjust the brightness when combined with the flash output controller.

5.5. Slave Trigger Mode

The flash unit can be triggered synchronously with one external flash. This mode allows the K-180A to act as an auxiliary lamp, offering various effects of light and shadow.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the flash unit and accessories. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the kit in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the unit fails to power on, check the fuse. Replace it with a fuse of the same rating (5A).

7. Troubleshooting

  • Flash not firing:
    • Check if the unit is powered on and connected correctly.
    • Ensure the RT-16 trigger transmitter and receiver have fresh batteries and are properly synced.
    • Verify the sync cord is securely connected to the flash unit.
    • Check the fuse.
  • Modeling lamp not working:
    • Ensure the Modeling Light Switch is in the ON position.
    • Check if the lamp bulb is securely installed and not burnt out.
  • Inconsistent flash output:
    • Ensure the Flash Output Controller is set correctly.
    • Allow sufficient recharging time between flashes.
