Important Note:

  • This motherboard only supports SATA 2.0.
  • A powerful power supply of at least 500W (brand power supply recommended) is required to support this platform.
  • The CMOS battery is removed before shipping due to international shipping regulations. You will need to install a CR2032 CMOS battery (not included) upon receipt.

Installation Guide

1. CPU Installation

  1. Carefully open the CPU socket retention arm on the motherboard (LGA 2011 socket).
  2. Align the Xeon E5 2650 V2 CPU with the socket, ensuring the gold triangle on the CPU matches the triangle on the socket. Do not force the CPU into place.
  3. Gently lower the CPU into the socket.
  4. Close the retention arm to secure the CPU.
  5. Apply thermal paste to the top of the CPU and install a compatible CPU cooler.

2. RAM Installation

The motherboard has four DDR3 DIMM slots. For optimal performance, follow the dual-channel memory configuration.

Diagram showing memory installation tips for Kllisre X79 motherboard, indicating yellow slots as main and red slots as sub slots.
Figure 3: Memory Installation Tips. Insert RAM into the yellow slot first.
  1. Locate the DDR3 memory slots. Note that the yellow slots are the main slots and the red slots are sub slots.
  2. Open the clips at both ends of the memory slot.
  3. Align the notch on the 16GB DDR3 1600 ECC RAM module with the key in the memory slot.
  4. Insert the RAM module into a yellow slot first, then press down firmly on both ends until the clips snap into place.
  5. If installing additional RAM, use the other yellow slot for dual-channel operation, then the red slots if needed.

3. Motherboard Installation and Connections

  1. Mount the motherboard securely into your PC case using appropriate standoffs and screws.
  2. Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
  3. Connect the 8-pin CPU power connector (EPS12V) to the motherboard.
  4. Connect SATA data cables from your storage devices (HDDs/SSDs) to the SATA 2.0 ports on the motherboard.
  5. Connect front panel headers (Power LED, Power SW, HDD LED, Reset SW, Front USB 2.0, Front USB 3.0, Audio) according to your case manual and the motherboard's labeled diagram (refer to Figure 2).
  6. Install your graphics card into the PCI Express 16X slot and secure it.
  7. Connect any other necessary peripherals (e.g., network cable to the RJ45 port, USB devices).

Operating Instructions

  1. After all components are installed and connected, ensure your power supply is switched on.
  2. Press the power button on your PC case.
  3. The system should boot up. You may need to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup to configure boot order or other settings.
  4. Install your preferred operating system (e.g., Windows, Linux) from a bootable USB drive or DVD.
  5. Install all necessary drivers for the motherboard chipset, graphics card, and other peripherals for optimal performance.

Maintenance

  • Dust Removal: Regularly clean dust from inside your PC case, especially from CPU coolers, GPU fans, and motherboard surfaces, using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • BIOS Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for BIOS updates. Only update if necessary and follow instructions carefully.
  • Driver Updates: Keep your system drivers updated for stability and performance.
  • CMOS Battery: If your system loses time or BIOS settings frequently, the CMOS battery (CR2032) may need replacement.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power/No Boot:
    • Ensure all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU) are securely connected.
    • Verify the power supply is switched on and functioning.
    • Check front panel connections (Power SW) are correctly seated.
    • Confirm your power supply meets the minimum 500W requirement.
  • No Display:
    • Ensure the graphics card is properly seated in the PCI Express 16X slot and has adequate power.
    • Check that your monitor cable is connected to the graphics card, not the motherboard (as this motherboard does not have integrated graphics output).
    • Reseat RAM modules, ensuring they are in the correct slots (yellow first) and fully clicked in.
  • System Instability/Crashes:
    • Verify CPU cooler is properly installed and making good contact with the CPU.
    • Check for proper airflow in your PC case to prevent overheating.
    • Ensure RAM modules are correctly installed and compatible.
    • Run memory diagnostic tools to check for RAM errors.
  • Storage Device Not Detected:
    • Ensure SATA data and power cables are securely connected to both the motherboard and the storage device.
    • Remember this motherboard only supports SATA 2.0.
    • Check BIOS settings to ensure SATA ports are enabled.
  • Incorrect Date/Time or Lost BIOS Settings:
    • Install a new CR2032 CMOS battery on the motherboard.

User Tips

  • Always handle components with care, especially the CPU and motherboard, to avoid static discharge. Use an anti-static wrist strap if available.
  • Before powering on for the first time, double-check all connections, especially power cables, to prevent damage.
  • For optimal memory performance, ensure RAM modules are installed in the primary (yellow) slots first, following the motherboard's recommended configuration for dual-channel operation.
  • Consider using a high-quality CPU cooler, especially if you plan on running the system under heavy loads, to maintain stable temperatures.
