5. Setup

5.1 SIM Card Installation

  1. Ensure the device is powered off before inserting the SIM card.
  2. Open the SIM card slot cover.
  3. Insert a **Standard SIM card** into the slot. Ensure it is correctly oriented. Micro SIM and Nano SIM cards are not compatible.
  4. Close the SIM card slot cover securely to maintain the device's waterproof integrity.

5.2 Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the device using the provided USB cable and charger. Connect the USB cable to the tracker's USB port and the charger to a power outlet. The indicator light will show charging status.

5.3 Network Compatibility

The TKSTAR tracker supports 4G, 3G, and 2G networks. Please ensure your SIM card's network bands match the device's version for your region. Refer to the Specifications section for detailed band frequencies for Europe/Middle East/Africa/Asia, South America/New Zealand/Australia, North America, and Japan versions.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • **Power On**: Press and hold the power button until the indicator lights turn on.
  • **Power Off**: Press and hold the power button until the indicator lights turn off.

6.2 Tracking via Web Platform

Access the web-based tracking platform for real-time monitoring and management:

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to: www.mytkstar.net
  2. Log in using the 10-digit ID found on your GPS tracker unit. The default password is `123456`.
  3. Once logged in, you can view real-time location, history routes, and configure settings.

6.3 Tracking via Mobile App

Download the official TKSTAR GPS app for convenient tracking on your smartphone:

  1. Search for "TKSTAR GPS" in the Apple App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play Store (for Android devices).
  2. Alternatively, scan the QR code provided in the product documentation or on the tracking software image to install the application.
  3. Log in using your device ID and password.

6.4 GPS+LBS Dual Positioning

The tracker uses both GPS (Global Positioning System) and LBS (Location Based Service) for accurate positioning:

  • **GPS**: Provides high accuracy (5-10 meters) when a clear satellite signal is available, typically outdoors.
  • **LBS**: Used when GPS signals are weak or unavailable (e.g., indoors, underground parking). LBS accuracy ranges from 100-2000 meters.

6.5 History Route Playback

The tracking platform and mobile app store historical location data for up to 6 months. You can review past routes at any time to see where the device has been.

6.6 Geo-fence Setup

A geo-fence allows you to define a virtual boundary. If the tracker enters or exits this predefined area, an alarm message will be sent to the authorized numbers and appear on the app/web platform.

6.7 Alarm Functions

The device supports several alarm types to enhance security:

  • **Fall-off Alarm**: Automatically enabled. Alerts if the device is removed or dropped.
  • **Shake Alarm**: Triggers an alert if the device detects significant vibration or shaking.
  • **Overspeed Alarm**: Notifies you if the tracked vehicle exceeds a preset speed limit.
  • **Low Battery Alarm**: Sends an alert when the battery level is critically low.

7. Installation

The TKSTAR GPS tracker features a powerful magnet for easy, non-permanent installation. It can be firmly attached to various metallic surfaces on vehicles or other assets.

7.1 Recommended Installation Locations

  • **Under the Car**: The strong magnet allows for discreet placement underneath the vehicle chassis.
  • **Vehicle Ceiling**: Can be attached to metallic parts of the vehicle's interior ceiling.
  • **Front Windshield**: If a metallic surface is available, or using an additional mount.
  • **Storage Box**: Inside a metallic storage box or compartment.
  • **Pedal Area**: Near metallic components in the pedal area.
  • **Seat Frame**: Underneath the seat, attached to the metal frame.
  • **Bumpers**: Inside or behind metallic bumper structures.
  • **Other Assets**: Suitable for trucks, buses, motorcycles, bikes, beehives, safety boxes, and containers.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Waterproofing

The device has an IP65 waterproof rating, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. While it can withstand splashes and rain, it is not designed for submersion in water. Ensure all covers, especially the SIM card slot, are securely closed to maintain waterproofing.

8.2 Battery Care

  • Charge the device fully before extended periods of non-use.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures (below -40°C or above +85°C) as this can degrade battery performance.
  • Regular charging helps maintain battery health, especially for devices with long standby times.

9. Troubleshooting

  • **Device not powering on**: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to the charger and check if the charging indicator lights up.
  • **No GPS signal**: Move the device to an open area with a clear view of the sky. GPS signals can be blocked by buildings, tunnels, or dense foliage.
  • **Inaccurate location (LBS mode)**: If the device is indoors or in an area with poor GPS signal, it will switch to LBS positioning, which is less accurate. This is normal operation.
  • **Cannot connect to network**: Check if the SIM card is correctly inserted and activated. Ensure the SIM card has sufficient balance or data plan. Verify that the SIM card's network bands are compatible with your device's regional version.
  • **Alarms not working**: Check alarm settings in the mobile app or web platform. Ensure the device has a stable network connection to send alerts.
  • **Login issues on platform/app**: Double-check the device ID and password. The default password is `123456`.
