1. Product Overview
The MESTEK IR02 Series Infrared Thermometer is a versatile, non-contact temperature measuring device designed for industrial and home applications. It features a high-precision sensor, a clear color LCD display, and various measurement modes depending on the model. Some models also include a K-type thermocouple for contact temperature measurement and environmental sensors for humidity, dew point, and mildew detection.

2. Safety Information
- Do not aim the laser directly at eyes or indirectly at reflective surfaces.
- Do not measure through transparent surfaces such as glass or plastic stools, as this will affect accuracy.
- If the environment temperature changes significantly, allow the thermometer to acclimate for at least 30 minutes before use.
- This device is not intended for measuring human body temperature.
3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the handle of the thermometer.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert two 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Power On/Off
- To power on, press the measurement trigger. The device will automatically power off after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve energy.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Basic Temperature Measurement (Non-Contact)
- Point the thermometer at the target object.
- Press and hold the measurement trigger. The laser pointer will activate, indicating the measurement area.
- The temperature reading will be displayed on the LCD screen. Release the trigger to hold the reading (Data Retention).

4.2 K-Type Temperature Measurement (Contact, for IR02B/C and K550HET models)
- Insert the K-type thermocouple probe into the designated port on the side of the thermometer.
- Press the 'MODE' button twice to switch to the temperature probe function.
- Place the probe in contact with the object to be measured. The contact temperature will be displayed.

4.3 Operation Mode Adjustment
Use the 'MODE' button to cycle through different functions:

- Toggle Ambient/Surface Temperature: Click 'MODE' once.
- Switch Temperature Probe Function: Press 'MODE' twice.
- Switch Emissivity Adjustment: Press 'MODE' three times.
- Toggle Celsius/Fahrenheit: Press 'MODE' four times.
- Laser Positioning: In standby mode, press and hold 'MODE' for 2 seconds to cancel the laser positioning point. Press and hold again for 2 seconds to display it.
4.4 Understanding the Display

- Environmental Temperature (IR02C only)
- Environmental Humidity (IR02C only)
- NCV detecting (Non-Contact Voltage detecting)
- Surface Temperature
- Laser on signal
- Measured by K-type thermocouple
- Temperature unit (°C/°F)
- Measured by Infrared
- Emissivity
- Sign of low battery power
- Data hold
4.5 High/Low Temperature Alarm
The device features a high and low temperature alarm. When the measured temperature exceeds or falls below the set limits, the display will turn red (high) or green (low), and an audible alarm will sound.

4.6 Emissivity Adjustment
The emissivity can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1.0 to match the material being measured for improved accuracy. The default setting is 0.95.

4.7 Object Distance Ratio (D:S)
The object distance ratio (D:S) is 12:1. This means that at a distance of 12 units, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. For example, if the measured object's diameter is 10 cm, it can be accurately measured within 120 cm.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Low Battery Warning
If the battery symbol appears on the screen, it indicates that the battery level is low. Replace the two 1.5V AAA batteries promptly to ensure continued accurate operation.

5.2 Cleaning
To clean the device, use a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
6. Troubleshooting
- No reading or inaccurate reading: Ensure the laser is properly aimed at the target. Check the emissivity setting for the material being measured. Avoid measuring through transparent surfaces.
- Low battery indicator: Replace the two 1.5V AAA batteries.
- Alarm sounds/LED changes color: This indicates the measured temperature has exceeded (red) or fallen below (green) the set high/low alarm limits.
- Device not responding: Check battery installation. If the device has been exposed to a significant temperature change, allow it to acclimate for 30 minutes.

8. User Tips
- Emissivity is Key: For accurate readings, especially on different materials, remember to adjust the emissivity setting. The default is 0.95, but materials like polished metals require lower settings. Refer to the emissivity table in section 4.6.
- Not for Body Temperature: This is an industrial-grade thermometer and is not suitable for measuring human body temperature.
- Surface Area Matters: The thermometer measures an area, not a single point. It may not be accurate for very small objects like transistor covers. Ensure the target is large enough for the laser spot.
- Liquid Measurement: When measuring boiling liquids, avoid smoke or water vapor contacting the temperature sensing area. Keep the measuring angle at 45° to 60° for best results.
- Environmental Changes: If moving the thermometer between environments with significant temperature differences, allow it to stabilize for about 30 minutes before taking critical measurements.
