4.2. Installing Linear Scales

The linear scales (optical rulers) are the core of the measurement system. Install them parallel to the machine's axes of motion.

  1. Identify the appropriate travel length for each axis (X, Y, Z if applicable).
  2. Attach the linear scale body to the stationary part of the machine using the provided mounting brackets and screws.
  3. Attach the readhead to the moving part of the machine, ensuring it slides smoothly along the scale body without binding.
  4. Ensure proper alignment to prevent measurement errors and damage to the scale.
  5. Install the scale covers to protect the linear scales from dust, oil, water, and iron filings.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your HXX GCS906-2 DRO system, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the DRO display unit and linear scales with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the display or scale surface.
  • Environmental Protection: Keep the DRO unit and scales away from excessive dust, moisture, and direct sunlight. The protective covers for the linear scales should always be in place during operation to prevent contamination.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check all cables for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately to prevent electrical issues or signal loss.
  • Calibration: While the system has linear error compensation, periodic checks against known standards can help maintain optimal accuracy.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DRO system, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Display/Power:
      - Check if the power cable is securely connected to both the DRO unit and the power outlet.
      - Ensure the power switch on the back of the unit is in the 'ON' position.
      - Verify the power outlet is functional.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
      - Check the linear scales for any debris, oil, or damage that might obstruct the readhead.
      - Ensure the scales are properly aligned and securely mounted.
      - Verify that the correct resolution and direction settings are configured in the DRO unit (refer to Section 5.3).
      - Check for loose cable connections between the scales and the DRO unit.
  • Intermittent Readings:
      - Inspect scale cables for damage or loose connections.
      - Ensure the readhead moves freely along the scale without any obstructions or excessive friction.
  • Buttons Unresponsive:
      - Power cycle the DRO unit (turn off, wait a few seconds, then turn on).
      - Ensure the keypad is clean and free from sticky residues.

For persistent issues not resolved by these steps, please contact customer support.
