Installation Requirements

Before installation, ensure you have a Phillips screwdriver, a standard-sized rack with at least 1U height, and Category 5e or higher Ethernet cables.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Fix the mounting bracket to one side of the switch using the rear mounting bracket kit.
  2. Secure the rear mounting bracket kit (female) to the rack with two M4 screws.
  3. Attach the rear mounting bracket kit (male) to one side of the switch using two M4 screws and assemble the rear mounting bracket kit.

SYS Solid Green The switch has loaded the agent software code and is operating normally.
Solid Orange The system operation warning occurred.
Off The system operating or power supply failure occurred.
ID Solid Blue The ID indication function is active.
Off The ID indication function is inactive.
MGMT Solid Green The port is linked at 100M/1000M.
Blinking Green The port is linked, and there is data activity.
Off The port is linked off.
RPS Solid Yellow The redundant power supply from the other switch is not connected.
Off The redundant power supply from the other switch is running well.
QSFP+ Solid Green The port is linked at 40G.
Blinking Green The port is linked, and there is data activity.
Off The port is linked off or has been split.
40/100 GE Breakout Solid Green The split port is linked at 10G/25G.

Installation Requirements

Before starting the installation, make sure that you have the following conditions ready:

  • Phillips screwdriver.
  • Standard-sized, 19″ wide rack with a minimum of 1U height available.
  • Category 5e or higher RJ45 Ethernet cables for connecting network devices.

Site Environment:

  • Make sure that the temperature of the installation site is maintained at 0°C~50°C.
  • Make sure that the relative humidity of the installation site is maintained at 10%~90%.
  • The installation site must be free from leaking, dripping water, heavy dew or humidity.
  • Keep the installation site dust-free.
  • The installation site must be well-ventilated.
  • Ensure that there is adequate airflow around the switch.
  • Make sure that the switch is level and stable to avoid any hazardous conditions.
  • Make sure that the rack and working platform are well-earthed.

Mounting the Switch

Rack Mounting-Single Switch Deployment

  2. Fix the rear mounting bracket kit (female) to the rack with two M4 screws.FS-S8550-6Q2C-Ethernet-Switch-FIG-8
  3. Fix the rear mounting bracket kit (male) to one side of the switch with two M4 screws, and assemble the rear mounting bracket kit.
  4. Front rack installing: Fix the front mounting bracket kit (short and long) to the two sides of the switch with eight M4 screws.FS-S8550-6Q2C-Ethernet-Switch-FIG-9
  5. Fix the switch to the rack with M6 screws and cage nuts.

  1. Fix two middle mounts-female to Switch A with four M4 screws.
  2. Fix two middle mounts-male to Switch B with four M4 screws.

  4. Front rack mount installing: Fix the two front mount ears kit (short) to the two sides of the switch with eight M4 screws.
  5. Fix the switch to the rack with M6 screws and cage nuts.
  6. Fix the rear mount ears kit as needed.

Wall Mounting

  2. Use the expansion screws (self-prepared) to securely attach the mounting brackets to the wall.

Grounding the SwitchFS-S8550-6Q2C-Ethernet-Switch-FIG-14

  1. Connect one end of the grounding cable to a proper earth ground, such as the rack in which the switch is mounted.
  2. Secure the grounding lug to the grounding point on the back panel of the switch with the washers and the screw.
    • CAUTION: The earth connection cannot be removed unless all connections are disconnected.

Connecting the QSFP+/QSFP28 PortsFS-S8550-6Q2C-Ethernet-Switch-FIG-15

  1. Plug the compatible QSFP+/QSFP28 transceiver into the QSFP+/QSFP28 port.
  2. Connect a fibre optic cable to the fibre transceiver. Then connect the other end of the cable to another fibre device.
  3. WARNING: Laser beams will cause eye damage. Do not look into the bores of transceivers or fibre-optical cables without eye protection.

Connecting the Console Port

  1. Insert the RJ45 connector of the console cable into the RJ45 console port of the switch.
  2. Connect the DB9 female connector of the console cable to the serial port of the computer.

  1. Connect one end of a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable to the MGMT port of the switch.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a computer.

Insert the Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash disk into the USB port for software and configuration backup and online software upgrade.

  1. Plug the AC power cord into the power port on the back panel of the switch.

  3. The S8550-6Q2C power cord can connect two switches and realise the power redundancy between the two switches.
    • Furthermore, when the power supply of Switch A fails, the power supply from the other Switch B can supply power to Switch A and itself at the same time.
    • WARNING: Do not install the power cord while the power is on.

Configuring the Switch

Configuring the Switch via the Web-Based Interface

  1. Step 1: Connect your computer to the management port of the switch using the network cable.
  2. Step 2: Set the IP address of the computer to 192.168.1.x (“x” is any number from 2 to 254).FS-S8550-6Q2C-Ethernet-Switch-FIG-21
  3. Step 3: Open a browser, type http://192.168.1.1, and enter the default username and password admin/admin.

Configuring the Switch via the Console Port

  1. Step 1: Connect a computer to the switch’s console port using the console cable.
  2. Step 2: Start the terminal simulation software, such as HyperTerminal, on the computer.
  3. Step 3: Set the parameters of the HyperTerminal: 115200 bits per second, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control.FS-S8550-6Q2C-Ethernet-Switch-FIG-23
  4. Step 4: After setting the parameters, click Connect to enter.

Troubleshooting

The Power Module cannot Supply Power

All LEDs on the front panel of the switch, the fan module and the panel of the power module are off. The fan does not work. First, disconnect the power cord of the power module, then check the following.

  1. Whether the cable connections of the rack are correct.
  2. Whether the connection between the power socket and the power cord is loose.
  3. Whether the connection between the power module and the power cord is loose.
  4. Whether the power module is inserted into place.

Connecting the Switch Remotely Unsuccessfully

  1. Test network connectivity through ping.
  2. If the network is reachable, try restarting the switch.
  3. Check whether the corresponding service is enabled.

The Optical Port Cannot Link Up

  1. Check whether the receiving and delivering ends of the fibre optical cable connect correctly.
  2. Check whether the wavelengths of the transceivers of the interconnection are the same.
  3. Check whether the distance of the interconnection is within the distance marked by the transceiver.
  4. Check whether the rates of the interconnection are the same or whether the mode of the port rate is configured correctly for ports that support different rates.
  5. Check whether the optical fibre type meets the requirements.

No Characters/Distorted Characters are Displayed on the Screen of the Terminal Device

  1. Check whether the console cable is correctly connected.
  2. Check whether the console cable is broken.
  3. Check whether the console port of the switch is the same as the port of the terminal device.
  4. Check whether the console port configuration of the terminal device is correct.
