Precautions
On safety
Should any liquid or solid object fall into the system, unplug the system’s power cord and have the system checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
On operation
- Do not drive the speaker system with a continuous wattage exceeding the maximum input power of the system.
- If the polarity of the speaker connections are not correct, the bass tones will be weak and the position of the various instruments obscure.
- Contact between bare speaker wires at the speaker terminals may result in a short-circuit.
- Before connecting, turn off the amplifier to avoid damaging the speaker system.
- The volume level should not be turned up to the point of distortion.
On placement
- Do not install the speakers in an inclined position.
- Do not place the speakers in locations that are:
- Extremely hot or cold
- Dusty or dirty
- Very humid
- Subject to vibrations
- Subject to direct sunlight
- Near magnetic cards (credit cards, commuter passes, etc.)
Magnetic cards may fail due to the magnets in the speaker units. - Near televisions
The speakers are not magnetically shielded. Therefore, if you use the speakers near CRT-based televisions, color shading occurs on the television screen.
- Use caution when placing the speaker on a specially treated (waxed, oiled, polished, etc.) surfaces, as staining or discoloration may result.
On cleaning
Clean the speaker cabinets with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution or water. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzine.
If you have any questions or problems concerning your speaker system, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.
Connecting the speakers to an amplifier
Connect the speakers to the speaker output terminals of an amplifier using the speaker cords (not supplied). Make sure power to all components (included the subwoofer) is turned off before starting the hook up. When connecting, tighten the speaker terminals by turning them in the direction of the arrows in illustration A-1.
Notes
- Make sure the plus (+) and the minus (–) terminals on the speakers are matched to the corresponding plus (+) and minus (–) terminals on the amplifier.
- Be sure to tighten the screws of the speaker terminals securely as loose screws may become a source of noise.
- Make sure all connections are firm. Contact between bare speaker wires at the speaker terminals may cause a short-circuit.
- For details on speaker connection of the amplifier, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your amplifier.
Tip
Black striped wires are minus (–) in polarity, and should be connected to the minus (–) speaker terminals.

FAQS
Will this work with an old sony A/V system?
You can connect the speaker with a Sony A/V receiver that supports a speaker impedance of 6 ohms. Standard speaker wires are also needed for connection.
What type of plus does this have to go into the receiver?
The receiver should have a pre-out for the subwoofer
Is this a pair or a single?
Sony 3-way Floor Speakers are sold as a single unit. A set is 2 each, you will be satisfied with a pair, they sound great together.
Does it has an audio cable?
No cable included. A banana clip connector is at the back for you to connect your cable to. The other end of the cable goes to your receiver/amplifier
Is the price for sony sscse for a pair ?
Yes – enclosed are two Atmos speakers with mounting brackets
Does it has an audio cable?
No cable included. A banana clip connector is at the back for you to connect your cable to. The other end of the cable goes to your receiver/amplifier
Is the price for sony sscse for a pair ?
The power handling capacity of this speaker (max.) is 145 W with a rated impedance of 6 ohms. If your receiver can handle the power input then it should work, However, you will also need to consider the ohm rating.
When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage.
Will a 3000 watt reciever blow these speakers?
No it does not have its own power supply.
supply?
Subwoofer cable is needed in order for this speaker to be connected to your AV Receiver.
Does this have a five way binding post? Can it take banana plugs? I can’t make this out from the stock photos.
it’s not using a a 5-way binding post. Banana plugs depends on the amplifer that you’ll be using.
What is the best match to this product for a better bass output?
If you’re looking for the best overall match the Sony Core SACS9 10″ Powered Sub does quite well if you have a large room and RCA splitter or a receiver that supports dual subwoofers get 2 or buy a 12 or 15″ subwoofer from Klipsch or SVS. It also depends on if you’re using these more for Home Theater or Music. If you’re going for Music I’d suggest 1-2 small subwoofers for a better response time if you’re going for home theater only a larger subwoofer will give you more rumble for immersion. If you have a more mixed-use situation I think dual 10″ Subwoofers are the sweet spot, and the Sony Core SACS9 Subwoofer is made to compliment the frequency response of the core series speakers and matches the aesthetic as well.
is the price of subwoofer for a pair or single?
Subwoofers are sold singly- one at a time. It is the nature of sound that the deep notes produced by a subwoofer are non-directional. The stereo separation required for good sound is supplied by mid to high frequency notes… that sound is produced by your main and satellite speakers. Typically both your right and left channels are fed into your ONE subwoofer, and the one subwoofer produces the very low frequencies from both channels. The feeds to the subwoofer are often combined within your amplifier, and delivered to the subwoofer from a single outlet on your amplifier- “sub pre-out”.
Will these also let me listen to dts x?
yes, however, you may not be able to get DTS X quality as these are designed to support Dolby audio.
