    Question

Why is my scale weighing 30 lbs light and how can I fix it?

    Answer

If your Electronic Glass Scale 8188A is providing inaccurate readings, please follow these troubleshooting steps based on the instruction manual:

    • Perform the Initialization Process: This is the most common fix for inaccurate readings. Press the center of the scale platform and remove your foot. Wait for "0.0" to be displayed. The scale will then switch off and is ready for use. This process must be repeated every time the scale is moved.
    • Check the Surface: Ensure the scale is placed on a firm, flat, and level floor. Using the scale on carpet or uneven surfaces can cause significant weight discrepancies. Also, ensure the scale is not touching a wall.
    • Verify the Weight Mode: Check the switch on the underside of the scale to ensure it is set to your preferred unit (lb, kg, or st) and hasn't been accidentally toggled.
    • Battery Health: Although you have reinstalled the battery, the manual suggests that if the scale does not function properly, you should try a new CR2032 3.0V battery. Clean the battery contacts before installing the new one.
    • Usage Consistency: Always weigh yourself at the same time of day without footwear, as the scale is a precision instrument sensitive to manufacturing tolerances and positioning.

If the scale continues to weigh 30 lbs light after initialization on a hard, flat surface with a fresh battery, it may have a manufacturer's defect. The product includes a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase.
