Firmware update process
- Download the firmware update file.
- Extract the ZIP file.
- Copy the extracted firmware update file to a microSD card.
- Update the firmware.
- Confirm that the firmware has been updated correctly.
Updating the Firmware
This guide explains firmware update to version 1.30 as an example.
- Download the firmware update file.
Download the ZIP file that contains the firmware update file from the R4 Support & Downloads (zoomcorp.com/help/r4).
On Windows
Extract the ZIP file.
Select the folder that contains the downloaded ZIP file. Click ①“Compressed Folder Tools” and then click ②“Extract all”. This extracts the ZIP file.
Copy the firmware update file to a microSD card. Copy the “R4.BIN” file to a microSD card.
On macOS
Extract the ZIP file.
After downloading, open the ①“Downloads” folder which appears at the right end of the Dock by default.
Then, click ②“R4_v1.30_E”. Downloaded files will be shown.
Copy the firmware update file to a microSD card.
Copy the “R4.BIN” file to a microSD card.
The following procedures are the same on both Windows and macOS.
Connect the power source (AC adapter, USB bus power or portable battery) to the USB port (Type-C) of R4.
NOTE
When performing a firmware update using batteries, the update may not be possible depending on the remaining battery charge.
Insert the microSD card into the R4.
Press 
until the recording and playback indicators light.
After the startup screen appears on the display, the Home Screen will open.
Press 
and hold when the Home Screen is open.
This opens the Option Menu.
While pressing , press 
.
This opens the Settings Menu.
Use 
and
to select an item, and use 
to confirm.
Proceed with the following selections.
System ＞ Firmware
Press the 
(TRACK/FUNCTION 4) button.
Use and to select ”Execute” and use 
to confirm.
Press and hold . The display will become blank and the power will turn off.
Press and hold the ( power button) again to turn the power on.
The update will start automatically, and the PLAY indicator will blink slowly.
NOTE
During the firmware update, do not turn the power off or remove the microSD card. If the update fails, the PLAY and REC indicators will blink. If this occurs, turn the power off once and confirm that a microSD card is installed correctly. Then, turn the power on again and retry updating.
Press and hold The display will become blank and the power will turn off.
NOTE
If the firmware update fails, when the power is turned on, the PLAY and REC indicators might continue to blink and proper startup might not be possible. If this occurs, turn the power off. Then, turn it on again while pressing the PLAY button. This will start the update.
Confirming that the firmware was updated correctly
Press and hold when the Home Screen is open.
This opens the Option Menu.
While pressing , press .
This opens the Settings Menu.
Use and to select an item, and use to confirm.
Proceed with the following selections.

Check the firmware version.
