How to Reset Your DualSense Wireless Controller

If you are experiencing issues with your controller, the first troubleshooting step is often to reset it.

Resetting the Controller

1. Turn off your PS5 console.
2. Locate the small reset button on the back of the controller. It is inside a tiny hole.
3. Use a small tool, such as an unfolded paper-clip, to push and hold the button inside the hole for at least five seconds.
4. Connect the controller to your PlayStation 5 console using the USB cable that came with your console.
5. Press the PS button to pair your controller with the PS5 system. Ensure you connect to a Type-A High Speed USB port on the front or rear of the PS5 system.

Your controller should now have been reset.

Troubleshooting Analog and Button Related Issues

Issue: Analog Stick or Button is Unresponsive

Before proceeding, ensure your DualSense wireless controller is sufficiently charged.

Previously set PS5 Accessibility settings might interfere with functionality. Check how to disable these settings if you have unintentionally enabled them.

In most cases, this issue can be resolved by resetting the DualSense wireless controller as described above.

If the issue persists after resetting:

Consider deleting the controller's device profile from your PS5. Navigate to Settings > System Software > Reset Options > Restore Default Settings. This action will reset specific settings but will not affect your users, games, or save data. Your PS5 will restart, and you will need to re-pair your DualSense wireless controller by connecting it via the official USB cable.

Determine if this issue affects one game, multiple games, or all PS5 menus and apps.

Issue: Analog Stick or Button is Stuck

This can sometimes be caused by foreign substances on the analog stick base or button. Use a soft cloth to clean any dirt from the base of the analog stick or button and try again.
