No Mic Audio On Xbox

If you are having issues being heard while using your headset, please perform the following tests.

1. The Mic Boom Isn’t Loose in the Mic Boom Jack.

First, unplug the headset from the Xbox Controller. Then, disconnect the mic boom by pulling it straight out of the headset and plug the mic boom back in, making sure you hear a ‘click’ indicating that the mic boom is connected securely. (This may take a couple of tries; if you are having difficulty plugging the mic boom back in, note the metal key alignment.) Finally, plug the headset back into the Xbox Controller and try to use it in chat.

2. The Headset Works With Another Device

If the headset’s mic still isn’t working, plug the headset into a mobile phone and try making a call. Make sure the mobile phone itself is covered, to better ensure that the phone’s internal mics do not pick up the sound instead of the headset’s mic. If the other person was not able to hear you during that test call, continue to Step 3. If the other person was able to hear you during that test call, then the microphone itself is working properly; skip to Step 4.

3. The Mic Boom Is Working Properly

To make sure the mic boom itself is functioning, you can connect it directly to a Microphone jack on a PC and perform a recording test:

1) Disconnect the mic boom from the headset and plug it into the Microphone/Line In Jack on your PC.

2) In Windows, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and click ‘Recording Devices’.

3) Right click the Microphone/Line In input that the mic boom is plugged into. If you do not see a green check next to the device, click ‘Set as Default’. When it’s the default device, click ‘Properties’.

4) Click the ‘Levels’ tab. Move the ‘Microphone’ and ‘Microphone Boost’ levels to halfway (or close to that). Then click ‘OK’.

5) On the Sound Settings screen, click the ‘Playback’ tab and make sure your Computer speakers are enabled so you can hear audio playback.

6) Open the Windows Sound Recorder by going to Start > Accessories > Sound Recorder or search for ‘Sound Recorder’.

7) Start recording, then say something or snap your fingers near the mic boom. Click ‘Stop Recording’, then you’ll be prompted to save the file.

8) Save the file to your Desktop or another convenient folder.

9) Double click the file to open it with your media player, then listen for the sound you recorded previously.

If you were unable to hear any sound in the recording, then the mic boom will need to be replaced. If you were able to hear the sound you recorded but the mic wasn’t working during the mobile phone test, then there may be an issue with the headset itself. Please contact our Support Team for additional assistance.

4. The Xbox Console and Xbox Controller are Functioning Properly

Occasionally, you may lose chat due to a console or network error. First, try checking to see if there is an update available for the console. If there is an update available, try updating the console, and then test the headset again.

If there is no available update, try power cycling the Xbox. To power cycle the console, please do the following:

  1. Disconnect the headset from the Xbox Controller.
  2. Shut down the Xbox console and disconnect the Xbox power cable. Leave the console unplugged for a minute.
  3. Plug the Xbox power cable back in and power on the console.
  4. After the console has completed start-up, log into your Xbox Live account.
NOTE: If Instant Sign-In is enabled on your Xbox, log out of your Xbox Live account and then log back in.
  5. Plug the headset back into the Xbox Controller.

Any errors with the Xbox console should no longer be present. The microphone should now be functioning properly.

5. Xbox Live Gold Membership is Active and Settings Are Configured Correctly

If a power cycle did not resolve the issue, make sure your Xbox and headset are enabled for online chat. To quickly determine if the settings are configured correctly, try using the standard Xbox headset that was included with the console for chat. If you cannot hear chat when using that headset either, the issue may be with the settings or your membership. Make sure your Xbox Live Gold Membership is active and configure the privacy settings:

  1. Sign in using one of the following accounts:
    a) Your Xbox Live account
    b) The parent account of the child account
  2. On the controller, press the Menu button.
  3. Select Settings, and then select Privacy & online safety.
  4. Select the privacy setting you have enabled (child, teen, adult, custom).
  5. Select Communicate with voice and text.
  6. Choose specific friends or everybody.

For Xbox One Controllers with built in 3.5mm jack only:

  • Go to Settings > Kinect & Devices > Devices & Accessories > Xbox One Wireless Controller > Volume and make sure Headset mic is On.

If other players still cannot hear you in Xbox Live chat, then there may be an issue with the headset. Please contact our Support Team for further assistance: Contact Support.

Low Volume, Xbox One Controllers with A 3.5mm Headset Jack

For new Xbox One Controllers that feature a built-in 3.5mm headset jack, there is a separate menu to adjust the overall volume, chat balance and mic monitor volume. If you find that the default volume (game or chat) is too low, you can go to this menu to change the volume level.

1. Press the Xbox Button while in the Xbox One’s Home Screen.

2. Go to the System tab (gear icon) >> Audio.

You will see the following screen:

1. Headset Volume

This controls the overall volume (both game and chat) through the headset.

2. Headset Chat Mixer

This adjusts the balance of the game and chat volume. If the bar is moved toward the right   icon (Chat), chat audio will be louder than game audio. If the bar is moved toward the left  icon (Game), game audio will be louder than chat audio.

3. Mic Monitoring

This controls the mic monitor volume. The mic monitor feature allows you to hear your voice through the headset when you speak into the microphone.

If you cannot hear chat volume at all, please check that the Xbox One Controller is assigned to a player. In addition, make sure the ‘Headset Volume‘ bar is moved to the right and the ‘Headset Chat Mixer‘ bar is in the center.

If you find that the overall volume is still very low, please contact our Support Team for further assistance.

Using Two Headsets on One Xbox One Console

**PLEASE NOTE: This setup is recommended only for wired headsets that connect to the Xbox controller. While this setup may be possible with a wireless headset, we do not recommend attempting this with wireless headsets models, as wireless interference may occur.**

In order to connect two Recon 50X headsets to one Xbox One console, you will also require the following:

– Two Xbox One controllers (one for each player).

– Two separate paid Xbox Live Gold accounts/Gamertags. One account cannot be shared, and this will not work with “guest” or un-paid accounts.

Additionally, the following limitations will apply:

– For both Recon 50X headsets, communication through the headset is limited to other online players. That means the players with the Recon 50X headsets will be able to hear and be heard by other online players. However, they will not be able to communicate with each other through their headsets. They will have to speak out loud to one another to communicate. This is because “local chat” is not enabled on the Xbox One, and is not related to the particular headset or headset model itself.

– Similarly, if playing an offline multiplayer game, such as a split-screen game, the players will not be able to communicate with one another. Again, this is due to the limitation on “local chat.” This setup supports online multiplayer only.

Now, with the above requirements and limitations considered, complete the steps below to configure your Xbox One console to use two Recon 50X headsets:

  1. ?Begin with each player’s Xbox Live account/Gamertag signed in on the Xbox One console, and two Xbox One controllers each powered on and paired to the console.
  2. From the Xbox One Home Screen, go to “Settings” > “Kinect & devices” > “Devices & accessories.” In this screen, you will see both Xbox One controllers listed as devices.
  • Select Player 1’s controller.
  • In the controller’s menu, select “Device info” and then “Assigned to.”
  • In the menu that appears, choose Player 1’s Gamertag.
    • Back out of this screen, and navigate to the “Devices & accessories” screen once again.
      • This time, select Player 2’s controller.
      • In the controller’s menu, select “Device info” and then “Assigned to.”
      • In the menu that appears, choose Player 2’s Gamertag.
      • **At this point, each player should now have a controller assigned to each of their accounts.**
    • Connect each player’s headset to their respective controller.
    • If connecting the headset to the controller directly (without a headset adapter), the player will need to configure the audio for their headset as follows:
      • Bring up the Xbox One Guide Menu, using the Xbox button on the controller.
      • Navigate to the “Settings” tab of the Guide Menu (marked with a gear icon).
      • Adjust “Headset volume” to set the max volume of the headset your preference.
      • Adjust “Headset chat mixer” to set the balance between Game and Chat Audio in the headset (50%, or halfway, is a good place to start).

Both Recon 50X headsets should now be configured for use on the single Xbox One console. If you have followed these steps, but are still having issues with this particular setup, please Contact Support

.

**AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: This setup is recommended only for wired headsets that connect to the Xbox controller. While this setup may be possible with a wireless headset, we do not recommend attempting this with wireless headsets models, as wireless interference may occur.**

Xbox One Audio Issues

This article applies to the Recon 50X on a Xbox One Console.

If you’re experiencing audio issues with your Recon 50X when it’s connected to your Xbox One controller, we recommend testing and verifying the following. If your issue is instead with being heard in chat, please click here.

Before you begin, please note:

Do not plug the Xbox One controller into a USB port on your Xbox One console while the headset is connected to the Xbox One controller. This can cause audio distortion or connection issues. If you’re charging your Xbox One controller, we recommend plugging it into a separate Wall USB Adapter, or charging the controller when it’s not in use.

1. Connect the headset to a mobile audio device (tablet, smartphone, mp3 player, etc) and play a song or video you’re familiar with. If you’re able to hear the song/video through the headset clearly, then the headset is working properly and the issue may be with the Xbox One controller.

If you’re unable to hear sound through the headset clearly when it’s connected to a mobile device, then there may be an issue with the headset itself. In that case, please contact support.

If you can hear the smartphone audio clearly, but are still experiencing audio issues when the Recon 50X is connected to your Xbox One controller, but the controller is not plugged in to charge, continue to Step 2.

2. Please make sure your Xbox One controller is fully updated to the latest firmware, using one of the methods detailed here.

If the issue still persists, please continue to Step 3.

3. Try the following, in order.

  • Replacing the batteries in your Xbox One controller with brand new, non-rechargeable batteries
  • Try using a different Xbox One controller (Make sure that different Xbox One controller is updated).
  • Replace the Xbox One Headset Adapter (if you’re using an older Xbox One controller with an adapter).
  • Restart your Xbox One: If your profile automatically signs in, sign out and sign back in when the console powers back on.

If these steps did not resolve the issue, continue to Step 4.

4. Try using the standard Xbox One Headset included with the console to see if you have the same issue. If so, please contact Microsoft. If you do not have the same issues with that standard headset, contact support.

Voice Chat Issues With Nintendo Switch

If you are experiencing the following symptoms when you use your headset with Fortnite on a Nintendo Switch, please try the steps below:

  • Mic Not Working in Chat (you can’t be heard in chat)
  • Chat Audio Not Working (you cannot hear other people in chat)

You may need to re-enable the in-game chat. In addition, you may need to disable the Push-to-Talk feature.

To do so:

1. Make sure you are logged in to your profile. Once you are logged in, press the + button on the switch to bring up the Social menu. Scroll down to and then select the gear icon on the bottom of the left sidebar.

2. The sidebar will change in appearance from your friends list to a list of several different options. Select the “Settings” option, as shown below.

3. You will see several tabs on the top of the screen. Scroll to the Speaker tab – this is the Audio Settings tab. Then, scroll down to section labelled “Voice Chat”.

There will be two toggle settings: Voice Chat and Voice Chat Method.

  • Voice Chat is ON by default. To be able to hear and be heard in chat, this setting needs to be ON. If this setting is turned off, you will not be able to hear the chat audio, and you will not be able to be heard in chat.
  • Voice Chat Method is set to PUSH-TO-TALK by default. To be able to be heard in chat whenever you speak, this setting needs to be OPEN MIC. If this setting is set to PUSH-TO-TALK, you will not be heard in chat unless you press a specific button when you speak into the mic.

Make sure that the Voice Chat is On and the Voice Chat Method is set to Open Mic, and then test the headset again. You should be able to hear and be heard in the chat.

If you have re-enabled game chat, but you are still having issues with hearing or being heard in chat, please contact our support team for further assistance.

PC Compatibility

While the Recon 50X headset was originally designed to be used with an Xbox One console, it can also be used with a PC, under the correct circumstances.

If your computer has a single jack for both headset audio and mic audio, you will be able to plug the headset directly into that single jack and use the headset with your computer.

If your computer has separate jacks, one each for headset audio and mic audio, you will need a PC Splitter Cable for full functionality with that particular computer. Usually these separate jacks are identified either by color (Green/Pink), or by images of a mic/headset next to the individual jacks.

The PC Splitter Cable is available for purchase here on the Webstore.

Xbox Setup

To set your wired headset up for use with an Xbox console, please do the following. Please note that these instructions will apply to both the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X|S consoles.

1. Plug the headset into the Xbox controller.

2. While in the Home screen, press the Xbox button on the controller. Scroll down to the buttons on the bottom of the left sidebar, and then select the Speaker icon (Audio).

3. Configure your settings as shown:

  • Set Headset Volume to Maximum
  • Set Headset Chat Mixer to the Middle Setting
  • Set Mic Monitor to Maximum

WINDOWS SONIC SURROUND SOUND

1. While in the Home screen, press the Xbox button on the controller. You’ll see the following screen:

2. Navigate to the Profile & System Tab, and select “Settings“.

3. Go to General >> Volume & Audio Output

4. In the Headset Audio column (right side of the screen), set Headset Format to Windows Sonic For Headphones.
