4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly set up your FOTING sand filter pump:

  1. Positioning: Place the pump on a firm, level surface near your above-ground pool. Ensure it is protected from direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions.
  2. Assemble the Base and Tank: Securely attach the filter tank to the base using the provided screws and nuts.
  3. Add Filter Media: Remove the sand cover from the top of the filter tank. Carefully add the recommended amount of filter sand (up to 66 lbs) or filter balls (200g included) into the tank. Ensure the standpipe is centered during this process.
  4. Install Valve Head: Place the 6-way valve head assembly onto the top of the tank, aligning it with the standpipe. Secure it with the flange clamp and O-ring, ensuring a tight seal.
  5. Connect Hoses: Connect the pump's inlet and outlet ports to your pool's skimmer and return lines using 1.5-inch PVC hoses and hose clamps. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  6. Fill Pump with Water (Priming): Before initial use, fill the pump's large filter basket with water to prime the system. This helps ensure proper water flow and prevents dry running.
  7. Electrical Connection: Connect the pump to a properly grounded GFCI-protected electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. 6-Way Valve Functions

The 6-way valve allows for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position to prevent damage.

  • 1. FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water passes through the filter media, and clean water returns to the pool.
  • 2. BACKWASH: Reverses water flow through the filter to clean the filter media. Water is discharged through the waste port. Use when pressure gauge reads high.
  • 3. RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining debris from the filter lines before returning to filter mode. Water is discharged through the waste port.
  • 4. WASTE: Bypasses the filter and directly removes water from the pool, typically used for vacuuming heavy debris to waste or lowering pool water level.
  • 5. CLOSED: Stops all water flow to and from the filter. Never operate the pump with the valve in the CLOSED position.
  • 6. RECIRCULATE: Mixes pool water without filtering, bypassing the filter media. Useful for chemical distribution.

5.2. Timer Settings and Control Panel

The FOTING pump features a 24-hour dual-mode intelligent timing system for convenient operation.

  • Control Panel: The digital display shows the current timer setting. Buttons allow for power on/off, timer adjustment, and mode selection.
  • Single Cycle Mode: The pump operates for a set duration once per 24-hour period.
  • Continuous Cycle Mode: The pump operates continuously until manually turned off or a new timer setting is applied.
  • Setting the Timer: Use the timer button to cycle through 10 time settings or select continuous operation.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your FOTING sand filter pump.

  • Backwashing and Rinsing: Perform backwashing and rinsing when the pressure gauge reads 5-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure, or when water flow decreases. This typically needs to be done weekly or bi-weekly depending on pool usage and debris.
  • Cleaning the Filter Basket: Periodically check and clean the pump's filter basket (strainer) to remove large debris. Turn off the pump, release pressure, and open the clear cover to access the basket.
  • Winterizing: Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump and filter tank. Store the pump in a dry, protected area. Remove the pressure gauge and store it indoors.
  • Inspect Hoses and Connections: Regularly check hoses for cracks or leaks and ensure all clamps and connections are secure.
