RFX GATEWAYTM
Operating Instructions
Getting Started: RFX GATEWAY comes partially charged but we recommend fully charging your RFX GATEWAY before first use. However, you can set it up and use it while it is plugged in and charging. Download ThermoWorks App from the App Store or Google Play. Make sure your smart device’s Bluetooth is turned on. This is necessary for sending your Wi-Fi credentials. Once logged into the app, click on +Device on the bottom right of the devices screen and follow the in-app instructions to attach your RFX GATEWAY to your account.
What’s included: RFX GATEWAY, Pro-Series Air Probe, grate clip, USB A-to-C charging cable and adapter, silicone probe rings, and this instruction card. Calibration certificate can be downloaded from ThermoWorks App.
Charging: For fast charging, use the included USB A-to-C charging cable and adapter. RFX GATEWAY will not charge with a USB-PD or C-to-C cable. RFX GATEWAY should charge fully in approximately 4 hours with 5V and approximately 12 hours with 12V charging. You may also use our 12V Battery Bank, however it will not be fast charging due to the specific design of the charging circuitry. Battery life is approximately 24 hours unplugged. You can permanently power your RFX GATEWAY with the included 5V adapter and USB-C cable.
Tips for Use: When setting up RFX GATEWAY, please make sure the antenna is always vertical, see below for options:
The body of your RFX GATEWAY should not be affixed directly to a hot smoker or grill’s hood–nor should it be placed inside a smoker or oven. The high heat will melt the plastic housing. You may attach it to a surface that does not become hot, like a pellet hopper.
The air probe cable may be closed in an oven door or under a BBQ hood with the following precautions:
Cautions for Pro-Series Air Probe: · Use hot pads or gloves when removing the probe. · Do not pull on the cable. Use the molded mini-handle. · The cable will withstand 700°F (370°C) and the transition/handle 644°F
(340°C). · Probe tip itself is rated to 572°F (300°C). Do NOT expose probe tip to flames
or coals. · Construction is moisture-resistant, but we do not recommend full immersion
of the cable. · Clean probe by wiping with damp cloth and kitchen cleaner. · Keep the probe cable away from oven elements, flames, coals, grill or oven racks–all of which can reach temperatures far higher than 700°F (even if an oven is set lower). The probe cable can be damaged at higher temperatures. The inner insulation will melt and the probe will short (displaying “NO PROBE” on the alarm display). · When using in outdoor BBQ grills or smokers, avoid pinching the cable between hot surfaces such as a cast metal grill hood without some insulating protection. Use an access hole if available. · Avoid repeated kinking or twisting of the probe cable which can break wires. · With care, the probe should last a long time. Eventually, you may need to replace it. If the probe becomes damaged, the base unit will flash “NO PROBE” below the temperature display. Affordable replacements are available. Use only ThermoWorks Pro-Series Probes.

RFX MEAT TM
Operating Instructions
Getting Started: RFX MEAT comes charged and ready to use. Once you have added your RFX GATEWAY to your account via the ThermoWorks App, click on +Device on the bottom right of the devices screen and follow the in-app instructions to attach your RFX MEAT to your account.
Please Note: RFX GATEWAY will need to be added to your account before your RFX MEAT can be added.
What’s included: RFX MEAT, charging block, silicone probe rings, 1xAAA battery (installed), and this instruction card. Calibration certificate can be downloaded from ThermoWorks App.
Charging: When placing RFX MEAT into the charging block, make sure the reduced-tip penetration probe is facing toward the rounded side of the charging block (away from the LED charging light.)
When placed back into the charging block, the LED will flash red and it will stop transmitting temperatures. When the flashing stops, RFX MEAT is fully charged (LED light will not turn green). RFX MEAT fully charges in approximately 20 minutes and will be 80% charged in approximately 10 minutes.
Please Note: The AAA battery in the charging block will need to be replaced at least once per year, even if it is not low. The ThermoWorks App will automatically remind you when it is time to change the battery.

Tips for Use: Insert your RFX MEAT probe into the substance to be measured all the way to the minimum immersion line and up to the recommended immersion line. The electronics of the probe are found below the minimum immersion line. Exposure to temperatures higher than the rated specification (212°F) may accelerate battery degradation and/or damage the electronics. The ThermoWorks App will display the lowest temperature that is being read by all four sensors. To see all five sensor readings (lowest temperature plus 4 individual sensors), enable Advanced Mode. When using probe rings, please do not expose to temperatures above 600°F as they may melt.
