Product Usage Instructions

  • Plug the extender/repeater into a power outlet near the Wi-Fi router.
  • For devices with a single LED indicator: Wait until the LED blinks red.
  • For devices with multiple LED indicators: Ensure the PWR LED is solid.
  • Connect your client device to the extender/repeater’s Wi-Fi network or LAN port using an Ethernet cable.
  • Access the extender/repeater’s web UI by entering re.tenda.cn or 192.168.0.254 in a web browser.
  • Follow on-screen instructions for setup.
  • Press the WPS button on the Wi-Fi router and then on the extender/repeater within 2 minutes.
  • Check LED indicators for successful setup.
  • Place the extender/repeater between the router and the Wi-Fi dead zone.
  • Avoid strong interference from electronics like microwaves and refrigerators.
  • Elevate the extender/repeater with minimal obstacles.
  • Ensure antennas are pointed vertically upwards.

The appearance of the device may vary with models. The actual product prevails. A23 is used for illustrations here.

Power on the extender repeater

  • Plug the extender/repeater into a power outlet near the Wi-Fi router.
  • For the device with a single LED indicator: Wait until the LED indicator blinks red.
  • For the device with multiple LED indicators: Ensure that the PWR LED indicator is solid.

Connect the extender repeater to the internet

Method 1: Set up the extender/repeater by web UI

  1. Connect the client to the extender/repeater.
    Method 1: Connect the WiFi-enabled device such as a smartphone to the Wi-Fi network of the extender/repeater.
    Method 2: If the extender/repeater has a LAN port, use an Ethernet cable to connect the computer to the LAN port of the extender/repeater.
    Tips
    The default Wi-Fi name (SSID) is labeled on your extender/repeater. By default, it has no password.Tenda-A23-Wi-Fi-Range-Extender-Repeater-fig-2
  2. After connecting to the extender/repeater, within one minute, you will be directed to the quick setup page. If not, start a web browser, and enter re.tenda.cn or 192.168.0.254 in the address bar to access the extender/repeater’s web UI.Tenda-A23-Wi-Fi-Range-Extender-Repeater-fig-3
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

Tips

  • If the web UI still does not appear, refer to Q1 in the FAQ.
  • If the web UI prompts to select a working mode, select Extender Mode.

Method 2: Set up the extender/repeater with the WPS button

Tips
This method is applicable for the router having a WPS button. If the extender/repeater supports the MESH function, this method is also applicable to a Tenda router that supports Wi-Fi+Mesh technology.

  1. Press the WPS button on the Wi-Fi router to enable its WPS function.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button (1-3s) on the extender/repeater.

For the device with a single LED indicator: The LED indicator blinks fast. When the LED indicator lights solid blue or green, the setup is successful.
For the device with multiple LED indicators: The WPS LED indicator blinks. When the WPS LED indicator lights solid on, and the Signal LED indicator lights solid blue, the setup is successful.

Relocate the extender repeater

  1. Refer to the following relocation tips to locate the extender/repeater to obtain a better performance.
    • Place the extender/repeater between the Wi-Fi router and the Wi-Fi dead zone (within the coverage of the router).
    • Keep your extender/repeater away from electronics with strong interference, such as microwave ovens, induction cookers, and refrigerators.
    • Place the extender/repeater in a high position with few obstacles.
    • Unfold the antennas and point them vertically upwards.
  2. Observe the (Signal) LED indicator of the extender/repeater to ensure the extender/ repeater is located in the proper position.

  3. If the connection quality is fair/poor, move the extender/repeater closer to the Wi-Fi router.

Connect clients to the internet

WiFi-enabled device: Connect to the Wi-Fi network of extender/repeater.
After extending, the Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi password of the extender/repeater are shown in the table below.

FAQ

  • Q1. I cannot log in to the web UI of the extender/repeater. What should I do?
  • A1.If you are using a wireless client, such as a smartphone:
    • Ensure that your smartphone is connected to the Wi-Fi network of the extender/repeater.
    • Before extending: The default Wi-Fi name (SSID) is labeled on your extender/repeater.
    • After extending: Stay near your extender/repeater. Reconnect the extender/repeater’s Wi-Fi by referring to Connect clients to the Internet.
    • Ensure that the Mobile Data (if any) function is disabled.
    • If you are using a wired client, such as a computer:
    • Ensure that your computer is set to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
    • Ensure that you enter re.tenda.cn or 192.168.0.254 in the address bar (not the searching bar) of the browser.
    • If the problem persists, reset the extender/repeater, and then log in again.
  • Q2. The extender/repeater cannot find the Wi-Fi network of my Wi-Fi router. What should I do?
  • A2. -Ensure that your smartphone can detect the Wi-Fi network of your Wi-Fi router.
    • Change the channel of your Wi-Fi router, and try again.
    • Change the encryption type of the Wi-Fi router to WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, or WPA3-SAE (only for Wi-Fi 6 extender/repeater) and try again.
  • Q3. I cannot find the Wi-Fi name of the extender after extending the network successfully. What should I do?
  • A3. The possible reason is that you did not customize the extender Wi-Fi name when extending the network. In this case, the Wi-Fi name of the extender is the same as the upstream Wi-Fi router after the extension is successful.
