Setup

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the keyboard and all accessories from the packaging.
2. Connection: Connect the detachable USB cable to the USB-C port on the keyboard and the USB-A end to an available USB port on your computer.

3. Driver Installation: The keyboard is plug-and-play and typically does not require additional drivers for basic functionality. Your operating system should automatically recognize the device.

Operating Instructions

Basic Keyboard Functions

The KD83A features a standard 75% layout with 83 keys, including a full function row (F1-F12) and dedicated navigation keys.

RGB Backlight Control

The keyboard features a vibrant RGB backlight with 16.8 million colors and various customizable effects. Each key has a separate diode for precise lighting.

• Preset Shortcuts: Use specific key combinations (often involving the Fn key) to cycle through lighting modes, adjust brightness, and change colors directly on the keyboard. Refer to the included quick guide or the official Dark Project software for a complete list of these shortcuts.

Hot-Swap Functionality

The KD83A supports HotSwap technology, allowing you to replace mechanical switches without soldering. This enables easy customization and maintenance.

1. Removing Keycaps: Use the provided metal keycap puller to gently remove the desired keycap. Hook the puller onto the keycap and pull straight up.
2. Removing Switches: Use the provided metal switch puller. Align the prongs of the puller with the two clips on the top and bottom of the switch. Squeeze the clips and gently pull the switch straight up.
3. Installing Switches: Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB. Gently push the switch straight down until it clicks into place. Ensure the pins are not bent.
4. Installing Keycaps: Align the keycap with the stem of the switch and press down firmly until it is seated.

Soundproofing System (Silent Mount)

The KD83A incorporates a unique Silent Mount soundproofing system with two silicone layers under the plate and PCB, a silicone pad, and silicone caps on screws. This design significantly reduces typing noise and enhances the acoustic experience.

Maintenance

• General Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the keyboard surface regularly. For dust and debris between keycaps, use compressed air.
• Deep Cleaning (Keycaps): For thorough cleaning, remove keycaps using the keycap puller and wash them with mild soap and water. Ensure they are completely dry before reattaching.
• Switch Maintenance: Due to factory-lubed Gateron Cap Teal switches and greased stabilizers, regular lubrication is not typically required. If you notice any issues, refer to the Hot-Swap section for switch replacement.

Troubleshooting

• Keyboard Not Responding:
  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer.
  • Try connecting the keyboard to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out system-specific issues.
• RGB Backlight Not Working/Incorrect:
  • Check if the backlight is turned off via keyboard shortcuts.
  • Ensure the Dark Project software is running correctly if you are using it for control.
  • Try reinstalling the Dark Project software.
• Keys Not Registering/Double Typing:
  • This could indicate a faulty switch. Utilize the Hot-Swap feature to replace the problematic switch with one of the included test switches or a new one.
  • Ensure keycaps are properly seated on the switches.
