CISCO 9105AXI Sensor Connect for IoT Services

Introduction to Cisco Sensor Connect for IoT Services

The Cisco Sensor Connect for IoT Services solution enables delivery of advanced BLE capabilities over Cisco Catalyst Wireless infrastructure. The key component of this solution is the IoT Orchestrator which is a Cisco IOx application that can be deployed on any existing Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controller platforms running software version Cisco IOS-XE 17.15.1 and later. With the Cisco Sensor Connect for IoT Services solution, you have capabilities to securely onboard and control BLE devices, and consume data telemetry using the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT).

Software Features

New Software Features 1.1

FeatureDescription
Support for MQTT Message BatchingTo improve network efficiency and achieve high MQTT throughput in scale scenarios, the IoT Orchestrator application supports MQTT message batching. As a result, a new protosun message called Data Batch has been introduced. It acts as a wrapper for multiple data subscription messages, and each Data Batch message can contain multiple Data Subscription messages. The partner application that consumes MQTT messages from the IoT Orchestrator must update the data application protocol buffer from the Pre- GA Release prototype to the GA Release prototype. For information on the Data Application Protocol Buffer (Pre-GA Release), see the https://github.com/ietf-wg-asdf/asdf-nipc/blob/nipc-asdf 01/proto/data_ app. proto. For information on the Data Application Protocol Buffer (GA Release), see the https://github.com/ietf-wg-asdf/asdf-nipc/blob/cisco-iot-orchestrator1.1/proto/data_app.proto.
Support for Multiple MQTT Data Receivers with Shared SubscriptionsA Shared Subscription is a feature in MQTT that allows multiple clients (subscribers) to share the workload of receiving messages from a single topic. It also helps achieve high MQTT throughput by preventing a single subscriber client from becoming a bottleneck. For more information, see the Cisco Sensor Connect for IoT Services Programmability Guide.
Support for Application EventsApplication events apply to use cases that require BLE device connection. If a BLE device is connected and any of the following scenarios occur:
  • IoT Orchestrator application restarts
  • Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controller reloads
  • Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controller HA switchover

Then the partner application must register for the application_ events topic to receive notifications such as Application Restarted or Application Stopped. For more information, see the Cisco Sensor Connect for IoT Services Programmability Guide.
