Set Up Your Echo Loop

Use the Alexa app to set up your Echo Loop.

 Set Up Your Echo Loop

Place your device on the charging cradle until fully charged. A pulsing yellow light means it’s charging, a solid green light means its fully charged.

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  2. Open the Alexa app .
  3. Click the Action button to turn on your Echo Loop and enter pairing mode.
  4. In the Alexa app, go to the settings menu  and select Add Device.
  5. Select Amazon Echo, then select Echo Loop.
    Note: You might have to approve the pairing request via your phone.
  6. Follow the instructions in the Alexa app to set up your device.

Getting Started:

Download the Alexa App

Download and install the Alexa app from your mobile device app store. Add the Alexa widget for easy home screen access.

  1. Open the app store on your mobile device.
  2. Search for Amazon Alexa app.
  3. Select Install.
  4. Select Open and sign in with your Amazon Account.
  5. Install Alexa widgets (optional).
Tip: Widgets allow easier access to Alexa from your device home screen. Alexa widgets become available in the device widget menu after you sign in to the Alexa app. On iOS (iOS 14 or newer) or Android devices, long-press the home page of your device and follow the instructions to add widgets.
How to Use the Action Button On Your Echo Loop

Use the Action button to talk to Alexa, answer or reject incoming calls, or call popular contacts.

 
What you can do How to use the action button
Talk to Alexa  Click once, feel the vibration, then talk to Alexa.
Answer or end a call  Click once.
Reject an incoming call  Press-and-hold for one second.
Call your top contact  Double-click, and Alexa will connect the call for you.
Access Siri or Google Assistant  Press and hold for one second. You’ll hear the Siri/Google Assistant Chime when it’s ready for your command.
Power off  Click once, then press-and-hold for three seconds. A long vibration will let you know it’s powered off. (Click once to power on.)

Device Settings and Features:

Use Alexa with Echo Loop

Position your hand so that the ring is next to your ear. This allows you to speak and listen to Echo Loop simultaneously.

Tip: A wake word isn’t required when speaking to Echo Loop, but the Alexa app must be open and running in the background.
  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Click the Action button on Echo Loop.
  3. Wait for the gentle vibration.
  4. Hold your open hand close to your face to speak or listen.
Use Your Voice to Check the Battery on Echo Loop

There’s no physical battery indicator on Echo Loop. To check your battery, just ask Alexa.

To check the battery level of Echo Loop, click the action button and ask “What’s my battery level?”

Use Google Assistant and Siri on Echo Loop

You can use voice assistants like Siri and Google Assistant with Echo Loop.

Make sure that your phone has Siri (iOS) or Google Assistant (Android) enabled.
  1. Press and hold the Action button for one second until you feel a vibration.
Now you can use the voice assistant that you enabled.
How is Calling and Messaging Different with Echo Loop?

Echo Loop uses data or minutes from your smartphone plan for calling.

  • Calls to phone numbers use your phone plan minutes.
  • Texts to phone numbers use your text allowance.
  • Alexa-to-Alexa calls use data from your mobile phone provider.
  • Program one speed-dial number that is called by double-pressing the action button.
  • You can’t talk to Alexa during a call.

Note: Messaging, Inbound Drop In, and Do Not Disturb are not available with Echo Loop.

How to Make Calls with Echo Loop

Use the Action button to make, accept, or end phone calls.

Answer or end a call  Click once.
Ask Alexa to call a contact or a phone number  Click once, wait for the vibration, then say “Call [name/number].”
Reject an incoming call  Press and hold for one second.
Call your top contact  Double-click, and Alexa will connect the call for you.
Set Up or Change Your Echo Loop Top Contact

Use your top contact to speed dial a preset phone number.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select Echo & Alexa.
  4. Select Echo Loop.
  5. Under Device Settings, select Top Contacts and select the contact you desire.

Set Up Lock Screen Security with Alexa

Turn on the lock screen security setting to block personal responses from Alexa while your smartphone is locked.

Lock screen security is available on:

  • Echo Buds
  • Echo Frames (1st Gen)
  • Echo Frames (2nd Gen)
  • Echo Loop

 

Turning this setting on and off applies to all of the compatible devices in your account.

To block personal responses while your phone is locked:
  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices"".
  3. Select Echo & Alexa, then select your device under Accessories.
  4. Select Block Personal Responses, and turn the setting on or off.
When enabled, Alexa blocks responses on personal topics, such as your Amazon account, contacts, shopping, location, and smart home devices.
Echo Frames or Echo Loop: Once your smartphone is unlocked, you can receive all Alexa responses for a 30 minute period.Echo Buds: Once your smartphone is unlocked, Alexa no longer blocks responses as long as you use at least one Echo Bud.

Check Your Echo Device’s Software Version

View your current software version in the Alexa app.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices .
  3. Select Echo & Alexa.
  4. Select your device.
  5. Select About to see your device’s software version.
Update the Software on Echo Loop

Your smartphone automatically downloads software updates for Echo Loop when connected to the internet.

Available updates are automatically installed to your Echo Loop when your device is placed on the charging cradle.

Tip: Make sure you have the latest version of the Alexa app from your mobile device’s app store.
What Does the Light on the Echo Loop Charging Cradle Mean?

The LED light on the Echo Loop charging cradle communicates its charging status.

The following colors indicate different levels of charging:

Solid Green

Echo Loop is charged.

Pulsing Yellow

Echo Loop is Charging.

No Light

Echo Loop is not charging.

Cleaning Echo Loop

Clean your Echo Loop to maintain sound quality.

Cleaning your Echo Loop helps recover audio in the event that the microphones and speaker become obstructed. To clean your device, follow these steps:

  1. Mix one pump of dish soap with ½ cup of warm water.
  2. Submerge your device in this water and soak for 10 minutes.
  3. Rinse your device under warm water for one minute ensuring that the microphone and speaker perforation holes face the flow of water.
  4. Shake off residual water from your device then wipe it using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  5. Leave the device on the charger overnight to speed up drying inside the unit. Ensure the charging contact area is completely dry prior to placing the device on the charger.

Troubleshooting:

Echo Loop Loses Connection

Force closing the Alexa app and restarting your Echo Loop solves many issues related to connectivity.

Note: Check your Echo Loop connection to your phone between each troubleshooting step by asking Alexa a question. If Alexa responds, your Echo Loop has reconnected.
  • Make sure that your Echo Loop is charged and turned on.
  • Check your smartphone’s Bluetooth settings. Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that Echo Loop is connected and active.
  • Turn your Echo Loop off and back on again.
  • Force quit the Alexa app then reopen it.
  • Turn Bluetooth off and on again on your phone, then select Echo Loop from the list to reconnect it.
  • Factory reset your device then complete setup in the Alexa app.
Echo Loop Charging Issues

Experiencing charging issues? Try the following steps.

  1. To charge your device plug the micro-USB cable into the charging cradle and the other end into a USB power adapter (5W or higher and safety-certified for your region).
  2. When placing your ring on the cradle, line up the charging contacts on the ring with the charging contacts on the cradle.
  3. Make sure the LED on your Echo Loop’s charging cradle lights up when you’re charging the device.
  4. If the LED doesn’t light up:
    1. Make sure the charging contacts on Echo Loop line up with the contacts on the charging cradle.
    2. Make sure the charging contacts on the Echo Loop are clean by using a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe away any lotion debris.
Reset Your Echo Loop

If you want to pair your Echo Loop with a new phone, or it has become unresponsive, factory reset your device.

Note: Having trouble with your Echo Loop? Try restarting it first: Double click the action button and hold for three seconds. You’ll feel a vibration when the device powers off. Click the action button once to turn it back on.

Reset Your Echo Loop

If restarting your device doesn’t work, try the following steps:
  1. Open the Alexa App .
  2. Open Devices .
  3. Select All Devices, then your Echo Loop, then select Deregister.
  4. Unpair/Forget your Echo Loop from your phone’s Android or iOS Bluetooth settings.
  5. Triple click the Action button and hold for 10 seconds.
  6. You will feel the vibration when the Echo Loop resets and turns off and then another vibration as it turns back on.
To confirm that the reset was successful click the action button. If the reset was successful, Alexa says, “Hello. To get started, go to the Alexa app and add a new device.”
Deregister Your Device

If you no longer wish to use your device, you can deregister it from your Amazon account.

If you would like to give your device as a gift or wish to register the device under a different account, you will need to deregister the device from your account.

To deregister your device:

  1. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and log in to your account.
  2. Click Devices.
  3. Select your device and click Deregister.
