Introduction

The AVITA NT17B Touch Free Infrared Thermometer is designed for home use and the intermittent measurement of human body forehead temperature in people of all ages.

Battery Installation

Low battery warning:

A low battery symbol [low-battery] will appear on the display. The thermometer can still be used, but batteries should be replaced. If batteries run out completely, "Lo" will be displayed with the low battery symbol. Replace batteries before further use.

Replacing the Battery:

  1. Gently slide the battery cover back.
  2. Carefully remove old batteries and discard properly.
  3. Insert two new 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries (LR03) according to the proper polarity.
  4. Slide the battery cover back on.

NOTE: Battery-operated

Switching Between Fahrenheit or Celsius

The thermometer can display results in either Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). Use the Memory and Mode buttons to change the mode.

Switching between 4 Kinds of Measuring Mode

  1. With the power on, press the Mode Button to switch between Human, Object, Human/Night, and Object/Night modes.
  2. The beep sounds are muted in Human/Night Mode and Object/Night Mode, indicated by the ? symbol on the LCD.

NOTE: Each press of the mode button will produce a beep sound to confirm activation, except for Night Modes.

Measuring Human Temperature

Taking a Measurement:

  1. Press the Power Button. The unit will self-test, displaying all symbols. When ready, "--" will appear on the screen.
  2. Select the desired mode by pressing the Human/Object Button. The ? symbol indicates Human Mode.
  3. If the patient's skin is covered with hair, sweat, or dirt, clean the area and wait 10 minutes before measuring.
  4. Ensure the thermometer is held firmly and the patient remains still during measurement.
  5. Position the thermometer within 3cm (approx. 1 inch) from the center of the forehead, with the sensor aimed between the eyebrows.
  6. Press and release the Measure Button. A short beep and backlight indicate completion.
  7. A "Smiling Face" ? appears for readings below 38°C. A "Frowning Face" ? and LED light alert for readings of 38°C or above.
  8. The thermometer will automatically beep and shut off after about 30 seconds of inactivity.

Fever Alarm:

Active only in Human Mode and Human/Night Mode.

Measuring Object/Liquid Temperature

  1. Press the "Measure Button" to turn on the thermometer. All symbols will appear momentarily.
  2. Ensure the thermometer is in Object Mode, indicated by the ? symbol. Alternate modes by pressing the Human/Object Mode Button.
  3. Position the thermometer within 3cm (approx. 1 inch) from the object.
  4. Release the "Measure Button". The temperature reading will be displayed.
  5. After use, the thermometer will automatically beep and shut off after idling.

Memory Function

Memory Recall:

  1. When the device is on, briefly press the Memory Button to show the last measurement with the [memory] symbol.
  2. The ? symbol or ? symbol will appear with each stored measurement, indicating if it was a person or object temperature.
  3. Each press of the Memory Button recalls a previous measurement.

Memory Deletion:

  1. With the power on, press and hold the "Memory button" to delete all readings. The LCD will show "--" with a beep.
  2. Removing batteries will also clear the memory.

NOTE: All readings are cleared regardless of the mode (Human or Object).

Cleaning and Disinfecting

For home use, 75% alcohol (available at pharmacies) can be used for disinfection.

Error Codes

Error messages indicate malfunctions or incorrect measurements:

Display Cause Solution
H. The temperature measured is higher than the measurement range.
Human mode: 43°C (109.4°F)
Object mode: 100°C (212.0°F)
Operate the thermometer within the specified temperature ranges. If necessary, clean the sensor tip. Contact your retailer or Customer Services for repeated error messages.
Lo The temperature measured is lower than the measurement range.
Human mode: 34°C (93.2°F)
Object mode: 0°C (32.0°F)
Operate the thermometer within the specified temperature ranges. If necessary, clean the sensor tip. Contact your retailer or Customer Services for repeated error messages.
Err The operating temperature is not in the range:
15°C~40°C (59°F~104°F)
Operate the thermometer within the specified temperature ranges.

Troubleshooting

Trouble Probable Cause Recommended Action
Failed to power on. Batteries are drained. Replace with a new battery.
Batteries are not correctly aligned with terminals. Reinsert batteries correctly.
Low battery symbol appears. The thermometer is damaged. Contact your retailer or Customer Services.
Low battery. Replace with a new battery as soon as practical.
The measurement is abnormal or if there is any doubt on the measured result In colder temperatures, batteries have weaker electrical charges. Warm up the batteries or use the device in a warmer setting.
Incorrect measure position. Reposition the probe point center of the forehead.
The measuring distance is too far. Maintain a distance of 3 cm.
The measuring is hampered by hair, perspiration, oil, sweat, makeup, etc. Remove obstructions from forehead.
The lens of probe is dirty. Clean the lens according to cleaning and disinfecting instructions.
You have just come from extreme temperatures environment. Stay in a steady room environment for at least 30 minutes.
The thermometer has been stored in a cold room or exposed to direct sunlight. Put the thermometer in a steady state room for at least 30 minutes.
Power switches off automatically. Measurement was taken in surface temperature mode. Switch mode to human mode.
System design. Push the power button again.
Batteries are drained. Replace with a new battery.
The thermometer is damaged. Contact your retailer or Customer Services.

Operating the Bluetooth function

This product features Bluetooth connectivity for data transmission. Measurement data is encrypted and transmitted securely. The firmware and software are programmed securely.

Refer to your mobile phone or computer's instruction manual for Bluetooth activation.

Set Up Process:

  1. Ensure your mobile phone or computer has BLE 4.2.
  2. Turn on the NT17B device. The Bluetooth icon indicates it is broadcasting.
  3. Check the connection status on your mobile phone or computer. The device name should be "NT17B".
  4. Measurement readings will transfer automatically to your mobile phone or computer.

a) The equipment is suitable for use in Home Health Environments and Professional Health Care Environments limited to patient rooms and respiratory treatment facilities in hospitals or clinics. The more restrictive acceptance limits of Group 1 Class B (CISPR 11) have been considered and applied. The equipment is suitable for use in the mentioned environments when directly connected to the Public Mains Network.

b) The test is not applicable in this environment unless the ME EQUIPMENT and ME SYSTEM used will be connected to the PUBLIC MAINS NETWORK and the power input is otherwise within the scope of the Basic EMC standard.
