and historical limits.
- A serial date code does not normally encode the full model number. Read the separate model/E-Nr/product code on the rating plate.
- Older R-prefixed numbers and unrelated Husqvarna Viking sewing machines are outside this decoder.
- A decoded date does not establish whether a recall applies; the model, full serial and manufacturer criteria must also match.
Research reviewed October 16, 2026. This independent tool applies published rules and retains unresolved years and model candidates.

Viking six-digit MMDDYY prefix
Viking Range appliances with documented date-leading serials: gas ranges, dishwashers and specified built-in refrigerators.
MMDDYY is verified in multiple CPSC/manufacturer notices from the 1999–2021 product eras. Other historic R-prefixed or imported layouts are not automatically decoded. A date match is not itself a recall determination.
Viking historic F-prefixed refrigerator date
Viking built-in refrigerator F-prefixed serial format explicitly illustrated in the 2009 manufacturer/CPSC notice.
The F prefix is part of the documented older refrigerator layout. No rule is asserted for unrelated Viking-branded products or other historic prefixes.

Viking lookup questions
Why does the year code match more than one year?
Some systems reuse letters or only encode the last one or two year digits. Every supported interpretation is retained. A decade supplied from reliable records can narrow the reading; the tool does not automatically pick the newest year.
Does the serial identify my exact model?
Usually the model is a separate plate field. Where published serial ranges actually identify a model, the result shows model candidates and links to their manuals. Overlapping ranges remain ambiguous.
Can I share the result?
After a lookup, the address includes the serial in a fragment beginning with #serial=. Use “Copy share link” to share the serial and selected context. Opening the link runs the same lookup. The fragment is not a query-string result page.
