and historical limits.
- Manufacture date is distinct from installation, purchase and warranty start dates.
- The date code does not identify a full model, capacity or configuration. Enter the separate model from the rating plate for manual search.
- Weeks are fiscal weeks; an ISO calendar-day conversion would add unsupported precision.
- Pre-1980 GE/Trane and three-character accessory date codes need separate primary references.

Central HVAC: letter year, 1980-2001
hvac
Legacy nine-character serial. First character uses the published non-alphabetical year map; next two are fiscal week. Day-of-week code is not an exact calendar date. Some coils/accessories use separate three-character date codes and are excluded.
Central HVAC: one-digit year, 2002-2009
hvac
Nine-character continuation with one-digit year 2-9. The leading zero of 2002-2009 is blank in the ten-position scheme. Preserve the fiscal-week wording.
Central HVAC: two-digit year and fiscal week
hvac
Ten characters: YY fiscal-week, day-of-week, time stamp, assembly line, plant code. Trane 2026 handbook explicitly lists 2009 as 9 or 09. Plant map is approximate city scope; unknown Y is not assigned a place.

Trane lookup questions
Why does the year code match more than one year?
Some systems reuse letters or only encode the last one or two year digits. Every supported interpretation is retained. A decade supplied from reliable records can narrow the reading; the tool does not automatically pick the newest year.
Does the serial identify my exact model?
Usually the model is a separate plate field. Where published serial ranges actually identify a model, the result shows model candidates and links to their manuals. Overlapping ranges remain ambiguous.
Can I share the result?
After a lookup, the address includes the serial in a fragment beginning with #serial=. Use “Copy share link” to share the serial and selected context. Opening the link runs the same lookup. The fragment is not a query-string result page.
