- Do not choose 2006 as a strict switch date: legacy codes overlap later ownership.
- Maytag Commercial MXR and licensed Maytag HVAC equipment use different systems.

Legacy Maytag-family trailing year/month letters (1966–2014 candidates)
Matching legacy Maytag household appliances and documented Maytag-built variants.
Two trailing letters encode year then month. The 24-year cycle requires model/era context; legacy serials continued after Whirlpool acquired Maytag. Do not truncate at 2006 or apply to earlier independent brands just because ownership later changed.
Whirlpool-built Maytag/Amana/JennAir appliances: 2006+ year/week system
Matching North American Whirlpool-built household appliances. Source/manufacturer confirmation is required for private labels and product-specific exceptions.
Week 01–53; no conversion to an exact manufacture day. Numeric year codes have historic 1970s/1980s alternatives for pre-acquisition Whirlpool systems. 2023–2026 letters are verified by AppliancePartsPros’ named technician; 2019–2022 directly corroborated by manufacturer manual. Source-prefix interpretation is not a model decoder. Water heaters, HVAC and commercial MXR washers excluded.

Confirm that the label/service manual uses a two-letter manufacturing/source prefix; length alone cannot establish this.
Collector chart: Maytag wringer washers1954–1959: year prefix / month suffix
Confirmed Maytag E/J/N-family conventional wringer washers with a year letter, six-digit identifier and month letter;1954–1959 only.
Collector-chart interpretation for confirmed Maytag conventional/wringer washers only; not a manufacturer unit registry. Full marketed variant is not recovered from the family digit. 1953 is excluded and year codes are not extrapolated. Source explicitly maps the100000–199999,E;200000–299999,J;300000–399999,N numeric ranges. These are model families, not a full model number.
Confirm an E/J/N-family Maytag wringer washer and this year-prefix serial layout from the machine. Excludes automatic washers.
Collector chart: Maytag wringer washers1960–1983: five-digit identifier and date suffix
Confirmed Maytag E/J/N/NX-family conventional wringer washers using five-digit identifiers followed by year/month letters,1960–1983. The ambiguous 1969 year symbol is excluded.
Collector-chart interpretation for confirmed Maytag conventional/wringer washers only; not a manufacturer unit registry. Full marketed variant is not recovered from the family digit. 1953 is excluded and year codes are not extrapolated. 10000–39999 maps E family;40000–59999,J;60000–89000,N;90000–94999,NX. The unlisted89001–89999 gap remains rejected. The historical chart year range is bounded at1983 so N1960 is not interpreted as1984 or2008. Month alternatives use the documented Maytag chart. The transcript has an ambiguous 1969 year symbol; that row is excluded until an original chart can verify it.
Confirm a Maytag conventional wringer washer with a five-digit serial and trailing date letters. Excludes automatic washers and modern badge families.

Maytag lookup questions
Why does the year code match more than one year?
Some systems reuse letters or only encode the last one or two year digits. Every supported interpretation is retained. A decade supplied from reliable records can narrow the reading; the tool does not automatically pick the newest year.
Does the serial identify my exact model?
Usually the model is a separate plate field. Where published serial ranges actually identify a model, the result shows model candidates and links to their manuals. Overlapping ranges remain ambiguous.
Can I share the result?
After a lookup, the address includes the serial in a fragment beginning with #serial=. Use “Copy share link” to share the serial and selected context. Opening the link runs the same lookup. The fragment is not a query-string result page.
