Where to find the numbers.
Find the label on the specific LG product or component. The date reader and the historical nation/product chart have different evidence scopes. Shupe Carboni’s unbranded reference is included as supporting context, not as an equipment manufacturer.

Look for
Model and serial number
Label location
Refrigerators: inside the liner, usually on the right; newer models may use the left. Front-load washers and dryers: behind the door, around the drum opening, usually at the top.
Format / what to enter
Copy the serial separately from the model number.
The first digit alone does not establish the decade; confirm the model and purchase history.
A one-digit year does not establish the decade. The default result preserves the year ending; a decade you supply narrows it without independently proving the date. Purchase documents, model literature and LG support can provide context.
Shupe Carboni is a manufacturers’ representative, not an equipment brand. Its supplied one-page serial sheet is unbranded. LG’s own appliance and HVAC documents corroborate the YMM prefix, but the sheet alone does not identify a product family or establish a universal LG serial rule.
The Shupe sheet describes 2014-or-earlier serials as three digits, four letters and five digits, and 2015-or-later serials as three digits plus nine letters/digits. Both descriptions have 12 characters and overlap. The suffix shape cannot independently choose a decade or establish whether a unit is before or after 2015. The tool does not use that cutoff as an automatic date validator.
The supplied worked examples are 803KAKN00192 = March 2008, 401KAQJ00007 = January 2014 and 507KCDG0M514 = July 2015 in that sheet’s context. Outside those worked examples, the first digit alone remains unresolved by decade. No KAKN, KAQJ or KCDG factory/model meaning is invented.
The historical 10-character nation/product chart applies only after confirming the LG Ceiling & Floor family and manual P/N3828A20360B. The manual illustrates K=Korea, C=China and A=Air conditioner; other letters remain unresolved. These meanings are not applied to modern 12-character appliance or HVAC serials.
The historical chart calls the final five-digit field Production Quantity, without establishing that it is a batch total. The literal field is retained, including leading zeros; no production volume, exact consumer model, factory building or calendar day is inferred.
Indoor units, outdoor units and replacement compressors can have separate identifiers. Match the model-specific manual and actual unit label. Older GoldStar and other regional layouts require their own documentation. A serial date cannot establish authenticity, warranty eligibility or remaining life.
Official LG support and the USA duct-free HVAC warranty/registration portal are external next steps. No serial is submitted to those services, no account is used and no manufacturer API is called by this local decoder.

LG appliance / documented HVAC first-three-digit date
Matching LG major-appliance and manufacturer-documented HVAC YMM-leading serials. The supported shape is not a universal rule for every LG product or market.
A one-digit year cannot establish a decade. Official LG HVAC documentation gives the same year/month prefix, including 503 for March 2015 in its worked example. The supplied unbranded Shupe sheet documents three 12-character examples and overlapping pre/post-2015 suffix descriptions; its context does not prove a universal chronology or manufacturer identity. Full model, country and capacity are not inferred from opaque remaining characters.
Historical LG Ceiling & Floor 10-character system
Only the historical LG Ceiling & Floor family documented in manual P/N3828A20360B: YMM + nation letter + product letter + five digits.
This manufacturer chart gives a year ending and month, with examples 1997→7 and 2000→0; the decade is not encoded. K means Korea and C means China in this specific chart, and A means Air conditioner; other letters remain unresolved. The last five digits are preserved literally from the field labelled Production Quantity; they do not establish a batch total. This chart does not identify the complete consumer model or a factory location.
Select this system only after confirming the historical LG Ceiling & Floor air-conditioner family and manual P/N3828A20360B. Its nation/product meanings do not apply to other LG serials.

LG lookup questions
Why does the year code match more than one year?
Some systems reuse letters or only encode the last one or two year digits. Every supported interpretation is retained. A decade supplied from reliable records can narrow the reading; the tool does not automatically pick the newest year.
Does the serial identify my exact model?
Usually the model is a separate plate field. Where published serial ranges actually identify a model, the result shows model candidates and links to their manuals. Overlapping ranges remain ambiguous.
Can I share the result?
After a lookup, the address includes the serial in a fragment beginning with #serial=. Use “Copy share link” to share the serial and selected context. Opening the link runs the same lookup. The fragment is not a query-string result page.
