How to Set Up eero

Follow these steps to get your eero network online:

  1. Step 1: Download the eero app for iOS or Android

Download the free eero app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. eero supports both iOS and Android. You cannot set up your system on a web browser. For supported mobile device details, visit: eero supported devices.

  2. Step 2: Create an eero account or Log In with your Amazon Account

To begin, log in using your Amazon Account information or create a new eero account. You will need to provide your phone number and email address. A verification code will be sent to your phone number; enter this code in the app to create your account.

  3. Step 3: Set up your eero Gateway

Your Gateway is the primary eero needed to establish your network. The eero app will guide you through this process:

    1. Unplug your old modem and router from power. Unplug any other wireless equipment connected to your modem.
    2. Place your Gateway eero device on a flat horizontal surface in an upright orientation. Connect your Gateway eero device to your modem using the provided Ethernet cable. You can use any Ethernet port on the back of your eero.
    3. Plug your Gateway eero device into a power outlet. Reconnect your modem to power. Your eero device's status light will flash white. For placement tips, visit: eero placement tips. Note: You need a modem to connect to your eero router. If your modem is built into your router, connect your eero to your existing router. The first eero device should connect to your cable, fiber, DSL modem, or modem-router.
  4. Step 4: Create your eero network

After tapping 'Next' in the app, the eero app will search for your new eero. The gateway eero's LED will flash and then turn solid once detected. You will be prompted to select a location for your eero to identify it on your network. You may need to enter your eero's serial number, found on a sticker on the bottom of the device (look for the SN barcode). Once a location is selected, enter your network name (SSID) and password.

If replacing an existing router, you can reuse your current SSID and password to simplify reconnection of devices. Running two networks with the same SSID can cause issues. If you have a modem/router combo, enable bridge mode (bridge mode) on the modem/router. If bridge mode is unavailable, you can set up your network in double NAT (double NAT).

    Tap 'Next' to complete setup.

  5. Step 5: Add eeros to your network

Once your gateway eero is set up, you can add more eeros to extend your network. Follow these placement tips:

    1. Place additional eero Model V010001 devices upright.
    2. Place eero devices centrally. To address dead spots, position a new eero between the dead spot and another eero for a strong connection.
    3. Ensure eeros are in the open; they communicate best when not enclosed in cabinets or behind furniture.
    4. Keep eeros away from large electronics, as metal objects can block Wi-Fi signals.

eeros can be added wirelessly or via Ethernet backhaul. eero Beacons (US only) are wireless only. For more placement tips, visit: eero placement guide.

  6. Step 6: Connect devices to your eero network

Connect your devices to your new eero network by finding your eero network name (SSID) and entering the password. Devices may automatically reconnect if you used the same SSID and password as your previous router. You may need to toggle Wi-Fi on your devices or power cycle them to recognize the new network. If you experience connection issues, try disconnecting and reconnecting Wi-Fi on the device, or rebooting the device and reconnecting.

Replacing an Existing Network

To replace an existing network, open the eero App and tap the blue plus sign on the top right of the home screen, then select "Add or Replace eero Devices." It is recommended to replace non-gateway nodes first, following in-app instructions. Once all non-gateway nodes are replaced, proceed to replace the Gateway eero.

When replacing the Gateway eero, unplug your modem from power for 2 minutes to prevent IP address issues. Ensure the Gateway eero is plugged directly into your ISP connection, without a switch between the Gateway and the Modem or ONT, even if using bridge mode.
