To install and operate the STAHL 261440 Binary Output without Auxiliary Power Field Circuit, please follow the instructions provided in the manual. Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Safety Precautions:
- Only qualified electricians should perform the installation, operation, and maintenance of the device.
- Do not open or modify the device. Repairs should only be done by the manufacturer.
- The device has an IP20 degree of protection and should be used in a clean and dry environment.
- The device complies with EMC regulations for industrial areas and may cause radio interference in residential areas.
2. Intrinsic Safety:
- The device is approved for intrinsically safe circuits up to zone 0 (gas) and zone 20 (dust) in the Ex area.
- Follow the relevant regulations for connecting intrinsically safe equipment and use approved measuring devices.
- If the device was previously used in non-intrinsically safe circuits, it should not be used in intrinsically safe circuits.
3. Installation in Ex Area (Zone 2):
- Install the device in a suitable, approved housing with at least IP54 protection.
- Only connect and disconnect non-intrinsically safe cables when the power is disconnected.
- If the device is damaged, subjected to an impermissible load, stored incorrectly, or malfunctions, it should be stopped and removed from the Ex area.
4. Potentially Dust-Explosive Areas:
- The device is not suitable for installation in zone 22.
- If you intend to use the device in zone 22, it must be installed in a housing according to IEC/EN 60079-31, following the maximum surface temperature limits.
5. Safety-Related Applications (SIL):

6. Operating and Indicating Elements:
- The device has a yellow "STAT" LED that indicates the switching state.
- There are connection terminal blocks for the safe area (black/green) and the Ex area (intrinsically safe Ex i, blue).
7. Installation:
- Take protective measures against electrostatic discharge before opening the front cover.
- Provide a switch/circuit-breaker near the device as a disconnect device.
- Install overcurrent protection (I ≤ 16 A) within the installation.
- Protect the device against mechanical or electrical damage by installing it in a suitable housing with the appropriate degree of protection.
- Disconnect the device from all power sources during installation, servicing, and maintenance, unless dealing with SELV or PELV circuits.
- Ensure proper insulation when installing multiple devices next to each other.
- The device can be snapped onto 35 mm DIN rails according to IEC/EN 60715.
8. Calculating a Valve Circuit:
- To connect a solenoid valve to the module, compare safety data and calculate the measurements.
- Consider the internal resistance, guaranteed voltage, current supply, maximum permissible cable resistance, effective coil resistance, current required by the solenoid coil, and voltage present at the coil with ISV.
- Use the provided formula to calculate the cable resistance (Rc) and ensure that all function requirements are met.
