3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Physical Overview and Dimensions
The NVR measures 255mm (length) x 223mm (width) x 42mm (height).
Rear panel ports include:
- DC 48V Power Input
- On/Off Switch
- POE-Link Ports (4 or 8, depending on model)
- Link Port (Network)
- A-OUT (Audio Output)

3.2 POE Installation
The Power over Ethernet (PoE) feature simplifies installation by allowing IP cameras to connect to the NVR using a single Ethernet cable for both data and power. This eliminates the need for separate power adapters for each camera, reducing wiring complexity and installation costs.
Note: Ensure your cameras are PoE compatible. If using non-PoE cameras, a separate PoE switch or power injector will be required.
3.3 Initial Connection
- Connect the NVR to a monitor using either the VGA or HDMI port.
- Connect the included USB mouse to one of the NVR's USB ports.
- Connect your IP cameras to the POE-Link ports on the NVR using Ethernet cables.
- Connect the NVR's 'Link' port to your network router/switch for internet access and remote viewing capabilities.
- Connect the 48V power supply to the NVR and plug it into a power outlet.
- Turn on the NVR using the On/Off switch.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Initial Login and Setup
Upon first boot, you will be prompted to log in. The default username is typically "super" or "admin" with a blank password. It is highly recommended to change the default password immediately for security reasons.
You can select your preferred language from the system settings. The NVR supports 18 languages.
4.2 Remote Viewing
Your Gadinan NVR supports remote viewing from various devices:
4.2.1 Via PC (CMS/VMS Software)
Install the CMS (for Windows) or VMS (for Mac) software. This software is typically provided on a CD with the NVR or can be downloaded online (contact support for download links).
To add your device in CMS:
- Open the CMS software.
- Navigate to 'Device Manager'.
- Click 'Add Device' and search for your NVR on the local network.
- Enter the NVR's login credentials (default: admin/blank).
- Once added, you can view live feeds and manage settings.
To find your NVR's Serial ID (important for P2P connection):
- In the NVR interface, go to 'System' -> 'Version'.
- The Serial ID will be displayed, often with a QR code.
4.2.2 Via Web Browser
You can access the NVR interface directly through a web browser on your local network. The default IP address for the camera is 192.168.1.10. For cloud access, visit www.xmeye.net.
- Open your web browser and enter the NVR's IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.10).
- Enter the username and password to log in.
- You can view live streams and manage settings from the web interface.
4.2.3 Via Mobile App (XMEye)
Download the "XMEye" app from the Apple App Store (for iOS) or Android Market (for Android).
To add your device in the XMEye app:
- Open the XMEye app.
- Select 'Add Device'.
- You can manually add the device using its Serial ID or scan the QR code displayed on the NVR's monitor or web interface.
- Enter the device name, username (admin), and password.
- Once added, you can view live video, playback recordings, and receive alerts.
4.3 Recording and Playback
4.3.1 Advanced Motion Detection Recording
The NVR can be configured to record only when motion is detected, saving storage space and making it easier to review important events. You can set a motion detection "mask" to exclude areas with constant movement, preventing false alarms.
The system can also send email alerts automatically when motion is detected.
4.3.2 Smart Playback
The NVR offers smart playback features, allowing you to define specific search areas and speed up playback of unimportant video segments, significantly reducing the time needed to find relevant footage.
4.4 Face Recognition (8CH NVR only)
The 8CH NVR model supports Smart AI Face Recognition, which can capture detailed facial information when someone enters the surveillance area. This feature requires compatible face detection cameras.
4.5 NVR Interface Navigation
The NVR's main menu provides access to various settings and functions:
Within the 'System' menu, you can access general settings, encoding, backup, display, account management, and more.
The 'Display' settings allow you to adjust resolution, channel title, and other display parameters.
The 'Alarm' menu provides options for configuring motion detection, video blind, video loss, and other alarm types.
The 'Advanced' menu contains settings for HDD info, upgrade, auto-maintain, restore, log, and version information.
4.6 Channel Type Configuration
The NVR supports different channel types depending on the model (4CH or 8CH) and the resolution of connected cameras. You can configure the channel type in the system settings.
5. Maintenance
5.1 H.265+ Video Compression
The NVR utilizes H.265+ compression, which is a high-efficiency video coding standard. This technology significantly reduces the file size of recorded video, leading to:
- Reduced Storage Requirements: Saves up to 50% of HDD storage compared to H.264, allowing for longer recording times or smaller hard drives.
- Faster Transmission: Lower bit rates mean faster video transmission over the network.
- Reduced Bandwidth Pressure: Less bandwidth is consumed, improving overall network performance.
5.2 HDD Management
Regularly check the HDD status in the 'Advanced' -> 'HDD Info' menu. You can format the storage, recover data, partition the drive, or set it to read-only mode.
5.3 System Updates and Backup
The 'Advanced' menu also provides options for system upgrades, restoring settings, and importing/exporting configurations. Regularly backing up your system configurations is recommended.
You can check the current firmware version in 'Advanced' -> 'Version'.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your NVR system.
6.1 No Video Display on Monitor
- Check Cables: Ensure the VGA or HDMI cable is securely connected to both the NVR and the monitor.
- Power: Verify the NVR is powered on and the power adapter is correctly connected.
- Monitor Input: Confirm the monitor is set to the correct input source (VGA/HDMI).
- Resolution: If the monitor displays "Out of Range," the NVR's output resolution might be too high for the monitor. Try connecting to a different monitor or resetting the NVR to default display settings (refer to the 'Display' section in Operating Instructions).
6.2 Cameras Not Showing Up
- POE Connection: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected to the NVR's POE ports and the cameras.
- Camera Power: Verify that PoE is active and providing power to the cameras. Check camera status lights if available.
- IP Address Conflict: Ensure cameras have unique IP addresses. Use the NVR's 'IP Channel Config Wizard' (Figure 29) to search and add cameras.
- Compatibility: Confirm cameras are compatible with the NVR (ONVIF support is generally recommended).
6.3 Remote Access Issues
- Network Connection: Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet via its 'Link' port.
- Router Settings: Check your router for proper port forwarding if not using P2P (Cloud ID).
- Cloud Service (XMEye): Verify the NVR is connected to the XMEye cloud service. Check the network status in the NVR's system settings.
- App/Software Version: Ensure your XMEye app or CMS/VMS software is up to date.
